I get massive swelling all the way down my right leg. All my problems with my CD are on the rt side of the abdomen. Does anyone else experience this? I mean my rt leg is 3X the size of my left and there is slight edema. I have had ultrasound after ultrasound. The Doctors cannot seem to figure out what's wrong. It's frustrating because I don't fit my clothes the same way and I constantly have to elevate my leg and wear compression socks. Any idea what this swelling could be steming from? Leave your opinions or any info you think might help me solve this mystery.

Thanks guys.shocked

It could be something as simple as Crohn's Arthritis.  When I'm flaring, my ankles swell to the point I can't walk or drive for 2 weeks.  My right ankle is usually the worst.

I know there have been others on here whose knees swell all the way down to their ankles.  Others have had their fingers swell.

I'm sure yours could be a NUMBER of different things but I (finally) know mine is simply Crohn's Arthritis (inflammation caused by Crohn's) and nothing more.

It's very annoying and I feel your pain.

Hi there it does sound like it could be arthritis to me too as I also suffer with RA along with crohns/colitis, and iritis. As for your pain on the right side that also is often the case for a lot of us crohnies, I know for me my pain was often right sided. But now I have an ileostomy and don't have that pain anymore. I would suggest you go to your doc and get a referral to see a rheumatologist my joints are always sore and swollen. I hope you get some answers soon. Let us know how you go, take care

Before my diagnosis my left ankle swelled to the point that I couldn't walk for a week... when I went on steroids it went away. I haven't been diagnosed with arthritis or anything and it hasn't happened again since the first time (then again I am on steroids right now). Hope yours gets better soon!!

My rt upper thigh gets stiff, sore and double sz when my symptoms are worse. I broke down and bought a cane to help when this happens. I have three sz pants that help with the situation. Have you tried using heat? That helps me some with seld massage. Take care

While I agree with the above, I wonder about your heart? Granted it is just one side, but my injury side actually swells less the my non surgerical side. I have swelling do to both arth and some minor heart issues caused from severe disease.

HM,
The heating pad helps you? That is something I should try. Oddly when I shower the hot water makes my leg swell more but I think it's because I'm standing for a long period of time. Does this ever happen to you?

MMMNAVY,
I never thought to check my heart that is a good recommendation. I do have heart flutters and palpitations every so often and my nurse said my lungs sound tight when I take deep breaths. She was very concerned. I was told long ago by my Doctor from 04 that I have COPD. But I don't smoke. He wasn't sure if it was asthma or what. My Doctor today said he thinks my lymph nodes may have been severed during one of my CT guided abscess drain procedures. My swelling walks hand in hand with exacerbations of my CD. I don't know!? It's all a mystery.

KittiKat,
I often wondered if that's what it could be. (Crohn's arthritis) Knowing I am not the only one makes me feel better because I can talk to all of you and you understand what I am talking about and you don't judge me or think I am exaggerating. It's nice to relate once in a while. Thanks for your help.

Andorable,
I am going to take your advice along with KittiKats and make an appointment with a rheumatologist.

Sickandlucky,
Steroids are terrible! I got moonface when I was on those darn things. YUCK!!! Hang in there!
