Has anyone ever gone to a pain management dr for their CD pain? My primary dr is suggesting it as the pain gets so bad sometimes percocet can only take the edge off. I thought my primary dr was a pain managment. He has been prescribing me the pain killers since flare in Oct... the pain has returned and worse ... just curious as to what a pain manag drs role is and if he/she prescribes pain meds- not clear on their role in this process- I hope someone else goes to one that can give me some insight into this before I go see one...

Many of us see pain management doctors. They deal only with pain. They don't try to heal your pain just help you find the best medicine to let you function while your other doctors find the medicines to heal your disease. Most GI's just want to treat your CD and find that your pain levels are just a good indicator of how much active disease is going on inside, so they don't want to mask it. What they sometimes fail to understand is that while the CD meds can take months or years to get things under control, we still need to function and we deserve to do that with out pain! Most
GP are not that well versed in pain meds either, so a good pain clinic is the way to go.

At most pain clinics you will be seen pretty quickly for an initial appointment and then have regular appointments after that. They want to find the right medication for you and to treat the type of pain you have, while still allowing you to function.

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!
