would you skip a Humira Shot before or after a surgery to heal quicker?

sorry I have not been here in a while. I am getting my masters degree and working full time, phew. I am having sinus surgery Friday and I am wondering if people skip a humuira dose for surgery? I have a dose due tonight and I am not sure if I should do it. My Doc says it is ok but I read humira can make it take longer to heal. Thanks for your advice!! Karen

If your doctor says to take it, I would generally take it. However, you could try calling your surgeon's office to get his opinion as well. Also, definitely let your surgeon know you are on Humira if you haven't already.

Thanks Nanners! I miss you guys! Hard to get on the net with homework, kids and work :) I did let the surgeon and my GI know. Both say it is ok to keep taking the Humira but I seem to remember people here saying they skipped it... Karen

I think you can.. but I always remember the doctor telling me it's better to not..for infection and other related surgery purposes. I'd just ask the surgeon.

I asked my GI the same thing when I had breast surgery in January, and she said that it's only been proven that with abdominal surgery you heal quicker if you skip doses of Humira. It's not shown to make a difference in other types of surgery.

That being said, I did skip 1 dose right before surgery. I was supposed to have a dose 2 or 3 days before surgery. I just skipped that and 2 weeks later had my next dose.

thanks everyone! Becky, that does make sense why both said ok to take the Humira. I still may wait a week. I would be taking a dose today then surgery on Fri. One of the reasons for surgery is constant sinus infections. Which I have one currently and have since about Oct 2009.

I've had a lot of sinus infections since being on Humira...uggh! I hope surgery helps you!
