I'm somewhat resigned to staying on SCD forever, mainly because I never want to go back to where I was. I had bowel surgery once, and never want to go though it again! My goal is to get to where I can have something illegal once a month (like a piece of birthday cake with ice cream). But if I had to stay strict SCD for life, I could live with it. I never ate out a lot pre-SCD, nor did I travel (pets make it hard), so it hasn't been that big of change for me.
I've eaten out once on SCD, at Outback Steakhouse. They have a gluten free menu, so I got the steak (no marinades, seasoning, or butter) and steamed veggies (no seasonings). I always take food with me when I go out, usually something easy like a banana or fruit leather. I just bought a Lara bar to see what they're like. They would make a really good snack on the go.
From what I've seen, you have to remain on a really healthy diet post-SCD to stay well. There are several people at the BTVC board who got well, went back to eating crap, and then had to return to SCD a couple years later. The returnees seem to struggle more then second time around, perhaps because they killed all the weak bacteria the first go round, and are dealing with hardier bacteria the second time.
Glad to hear you're at least feeling a lot better
