Can a sb stricture cause abdominal pressure and heartburn?  I'm getting a flutter in my esophagus and then burning in my jaw which lasts only seconds and then goes away. It's frightening.  My General Doctor thinks it's reflux but I did have an EKG to rule out heart problems.  I still don't have the results but if it was something you would think they would have called it in right away.    I don't have chest pain, just a momentary burning pain in throat and jaw area.  I go to my bowel specialist on Tues so will bring this up with him.

I have a small bowel stricture and terrible heartburn. Don't know if they are related. Possible dx of Crohn's but don't know for sure yet. My brother has Crohn's and he suggested Tagamet. It helped for a little while.

I have a stricture (or more, will find out later this week). I know there is one stricture in my duodenum. Food is having a hard time getting out of my stomach. My stomach contracts to push food down, but it can't so that force shoots up. My whole chest contracts. I get heartburn from this. I have been on Pantoloc for years but it didn't seem to help 100% so my doc tried Nexium recently and that may be helping more.

But strictures further up the small bowel can indeed cause heartburn. Food sitting in your stomach for hours, getting more acidic, can be trouble and make you feel like crap. Right now I have a discomfort in the back of my throat and sometimes now I get somewhat hoarse when I talk.

I could be looking at surgery soon to widen the stricture(s) or remove a short segment of bowel. I can barely eat nowadays, getting perhaps 1000 calories a day into me if I'm lucky. I am getting an Upper GI follow-thru done tomorrow and see the surgeon Thursday for the results and the details of a potential surgery.

Many who have Crohns also suffer with Acid Reflux/Gerd as a side issue with it. I don't have any strictures at the moment and I still suffer with Acid Reflux/GERD. I take Prilosec for mine. Hope that helps.

I went to the GI today and he thinks my symptoms including the heartburn and heart flutters may be the result of more narrowing. Of course he is sending me for more bowel tests to find out for sure. If it is caused by more narrowing, I hope this won't lead to a bunch of drawn out wait times between appts and take forever to deal with?
So anyway, the answer to my question is yes, a stricture may cause heartburn, pressure and even flutters but as this doc is doing, tests are needed to make sure.
