In my experience, if you are tapering properly you should be fine. I have not had any withdrawal symptoms when tapering...even from a high dose. Once I'm off the steroids completely I do notice a decrease in overall energy.
Dx: Crohn's in 2007 (after 10 yrs of symptoms)
Laporoscopy 10/07, Pentasa, Entocort, Prednisone (not working)
6mp - Nov/07-Nov/08 (worked great, but went off the meds in hopes of conceiving-no luck)
Remission until 2/10...Major Flare 3/10
Meds:Prednisone taper and back on the 6mp, Vit.D, Culturelle, Folic Acid, Pre-Natal Vitamin

The only thing I noticed when tapering was that when I would drop down to the next lowest dose, I would have a headache for a day or two...nothing I couldn't deal with, but enough to be noticible...

Dx'd w/ Crohn's in 1979 at age 13. Bad flare 2008 but no health insurance so I dealt with it. Colonoscopy in July 2009 caused a perforated colon, emergency bowel resection. 2 fistula's, perianal and perivaginal.

Humira, probiotic, a multivitamin, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and fish oil. I also take Tramadol 50 mg and Klonopin (for anxiety) as needed.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance!

I had a horrible experience tapering prednisone, and believe me I took it extremely slow.

I had a host of sx while on the drug (acne, mind blowing depression/anxiety, headache, fatigue, insomnia), but just from the withdrawal, it was the fatigue that dominated. I would wake up after just 5 hours of sleep and not be able to sleep again even though I was tired as hell. Even after I took the last pill, the fatigue persisted for a few months before I was completely back to normal.
Crohn's Colitis diagnosed 6/08
Organic SCD since 4/09
Remicade since 6/09
Boswellia + Natren's Healthy Trinity probiotic + Cinnamon + Wild Oregano Oil + vitamin D + zinc + Barlean's fish oil

The only symptoms I have ever had when I tapered was I would have some joint pain and acheyness for a day or two until my body adjusted to the change in dose.

other then my becoming prednisone dependent, the only symptoms I would have (before the dependancy would start to show) was that my achy joints and overall soreness would come back.
