Hi,

I have had Crohn's for 14 years since i was 19. Like many others i have ben on prednizone, asacol, remicade. No i am have been on 6mp for last 4 months and feel pretty good.

My question is, I have noticed that things are taking a very long time to heal, like a small cut on my leg should of been gone after a week but is still not healed after a month, and a simple pimple that was popped and should of been gone in a week is sticking around for 6 weeks. Has anyone else noticed extreme slow healing of cuts and skin problems after taking 6mp?

thanks

Hi Seemlessstech and welcome to the best Crohns forum out there. Some folks have had issues with the 6mp causing slow healing but not all. I am wondering if your body is just taking a little time to adjust to the med? Hopefully, others will be along soon with more info.

Absolutely!
I've had the same issue, and I'm on 6mp, and just recently came off an 8 year run on Remicade. I've had issues with wounds healing since I've been on these drugs. I've asked my GI Doc about this and he confirmed that it's one of the side affects of these drugs. Not sure if it's the 6mp or the Remicade, but one of them is doing it.

Keep in mind that these medications subdue your immune system, so having wounds that are not healing opens up some infection risk. I've been told to be very careful and make sure I look after those cuts and scrapes. Things like neosporin or similar anti-biotic ointments were strongly encouraged.

I'm on 6MP and Prednisone. I always heal very slowly from even the tiniest of cuts. I always thought it was the prednisone, but it could be the 6MP or the combo of both/either. So basically you aren't alone.
