So some of you may have read in my CT Enterography post that the scan showed my Crohns was doing great, but they had found growth on my kidney.  Well I met with the Urologist today and have found out that the growth on my kidney is a tumor.  I will be having surgery to have it removed in the next 2-3 weeks.  He said that at this point they can not tell me 100% if its cancer, but he said the odds are 60-40 that it is cancer.  The will biopsy it afterwards.  The one good thing is that when they remove the growth I will be cancer free if the tumor is cancerous.  So at least there is some good news with the bad.  My GI when he had told me the results of the CT scan said the growth was 1 cm which is really tiny.  Well the Urologist said its bigger than a centimeter and showed me that it was about the size of a half dollar coin.
I am glad the surgery is really soon as I will have time to recover before my total knee replacement sometime in the early fall.   Feeling a little stunned at the moment, as I have been so busy trying to wrap my mind around the knee replacement, and now this. sad    I was so expecting him to tell me it was a cyst.  And then when he was typing up the surgical request to read renal mass, really shook me up.
Anyways, if you all would kindly keep me in your thoughts and prayers I would appreciate it greatly.

Oh, Nanners! How horrible and upsetting and unnerving for you. You don't need this; not on top of everything else.

Of *course* you're in our thoughts and prayers.

Is there anything you can do for yourself, right now, to help yourself to digest this news and calm down enough to sleep? I'm guessing it's getting pretty late there...

What can we do to help?

I'm so sorry to hear your bad news Nanners. I too was wishing that it was just a cyst. You will be in my thoughts.

Your head is probably still reeling! I think the only comfort in this situation is that by chance you caught it really early. While surgery is something noone looks forward to, it sounds like it is very early and that it's fixable. Perhaps focusing on the positive will help allay the fears.

(((Hugs))). Ivy is right. You need to be able to get plenty of rest, and stay healthy to get through this. If you are anxious and not getting sleep, I suggest you take the anxiety meds and maybe a sleep aid at night to help you get enough rest. I hope all of it goes smoothly and you recover and put this one behind you very soon.

Ack. Well, there's still quite a high chance it won't be cancerous. But if it is, then my very best wishes for a speedy recovery. I hate to think of the worry you must be feeling over this; I won't tell you not to worry, as I'm sure it's impossible, but I do really hope that it's over ASAP.

*hugs* :-/

Hi Nanners, I've posted here before when they thought I had Crohn's disease and just read your post. I wanted to share with you that my Mother-in-Law had kindey cancer a loooong time ago and when they found it, it was spreading up the tube that goes into your kidney. She had her one kidney removed and has been completely fine every since.

I also had a client once who's husband had kidney cancer omg... probably 20 years ago... exact same as my mom-in-law... he even was to the point where he had blood in his urine... they took out his cancer kidney and he's been cancer free ever since.

I just wanted to share those two stories with you and hope that it eases your mind some.

Just be thankful they found it early and that it can be taken care of :)

Hope this helps

Nanners, what a bummer! The good news is that kidney cancer is so curable when found early. The bad news is surgery - uck! So glad they caught this tumor on your CT, and I hope the surgery goes smoothly and your recovery is quick.

{{{HUGS}}}} to you!
