So I'm having a brain fart and I need someone to reassure me before I freak out.

I had my first dose of Humira on June 25.

I take my second dose of two pens this friday right? July 9th? I wait two weeks exactly?

Please let me know!! Thanks

You are doing two pens at once?

I never did that. I am on weekly shots though.

You are correct. I took my first 4 loading doses on a Friday, then did the followup 2 doses 2 weeks later on a Friday.
When I read the script, it said take 15 days later which would have been Saturday, but I told my Dr that I'm following the KISS plan (keep it simple stupid) so that it wold be easier for me to plan things out. He said that was fine. I am exhausted the first week after taking it, so it lets me sleep whenever I need to over the weekend before heading back to work on Monday.
Good luck! Hope it works for you!
Dx'd w/ Crohn's in 1979 at age 13. Bad flare 2008 but no health insurance so I dealt with it. Colonoscopy in July 2009 caused a perforated colon, emergency bowel resection. 2 fistula's, perianal and perivaginal.

Humira, probiotic, a multivitamin, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and fish oil. I also take Tramadol 50 mg and Klonopin (for anxiety) as needed.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance!

You are correct. When I 1st started I would count out 15 days but I have since just been doing it exactly 2 weeks later to keep it easy to remember.

Sorry haven't been around for a few days. Last time I checked you were getting scheduled for surgery. Do they think the Humira will help out? I think my next step is remicade but surgery is probably unavoidable. Hope you are doing well or well as can be.

Okay thank you guys! I know that if you don't keep track your body will cause an allergic reaction. So I had a minor freak out because that happened with Remicade when I was 11 or 12.

How are you doing? Seems like you may be in the same boat as me. When do you have your next doctors appointment? Are you excited to start Remicade?
I am now scheduled for surgery on August 19th. They postponed it so I'd be on Humira for at least 8 weeks prior to surgery so my inflammation levels would be low. However, with this minimizing my inflammation it will also close my stricture more which may ultimately cause it to close and have me go for emergency surgery but I hope thats not the case. They are going to have me go on this steroid which will hopefully keep the stricture open. I'm also on strict low fiber (pretty much no fiber)diet so I don't irritate or cause the stricture to close more. I have my second dose of Humira on Friday.
Hope to hear from you soon!

Thanks guys

Hi PMkrier-

I'm still confused on how the Humira would cause the stricture to "close" with the reduction of inflammation. Maybe I don't know enough about strictures but regardless I hope you don't find yourself in a situation that causes pain or stress....or should I say more pain or more stress. Anyway glad to hear that you've got the date set  for surgery, I know that was something you wanted to get taken care of. I look forward to keeping in touch with you on your journey to relief. Since there isn't any type of PM'ing on this website if you want I'd be happy to keep in touch via email if ya want to drop a line.

So I've been feeling ok. I've minimized my diet to things that don't hurt as bad when passing thru the inflammed area of my gut. I actually had seen Dr. Rubin with Univ of Chicago thru a referral. He has a great reputation and I was happy to see him. He supported the idea of upping the Humira dosage and getting me on Methotroxate. If the Humira doesn't work then I want to try Remicade before any ideas of surgery are explored. I foresee surgery in my future since I have fistulas that are connecting to different parts of my intestine and one of them actually bypasses to my large intestine. That being said i've lost weight and am skinny but I still want to exhaust any options. I feel pretty good otherwise. I feel better though that I went to see him and if I do have any procedures it will be at the UofC. So for now I'm on auto pilot with lots of lovely drugs coarsing thru my system.

I've had so many doctor's appointments lately I finally told my normal Gastro that I need to take a break. He wanted to meet to discuss what Dr. Rubin had to say and I told him that i already know what he said when i went in for the referral. He was fine with that since he knew first hand that I've been at his office frequently.

Well enough about me. I hope that the Humira finds you feeling good and happy.

Type to ya later.

PMkrier~I also did the same thing as everyone else and kept it simple using the same day. Your situation sounds very complicated right now and I hope the best for you. I was having a rough night tonight until I read your current situation and now mine seems minor. Good Luck!!

JAB~I hate to jump as I usually just lurk and read here until I saw that you had an appointment with Dr. Rubin. I have been seeing him since February myself. Took forever to get an appointment and am hoping that he lives up to the reputation that he has. I sure could use some relief. I hope you can avoid a surgery too and feel better soon!
