Just wondering what peoples first symptom of a flare is, and how long does it usually take to progress into a full flare that needs further intervention/drugs?

For me it almost always starts with anal bleeding, my doc says they are engorged veins and hemmoroids like he would normaly see if I were pregnant ( guy by the way), but this is almost always when tapering off Crohns drugs, like prednisone, then comes the abdominal pain, then nausea, then lack of eating....Im sure you know the rest

Diarrhea, which eventually turns bloody. My nurse said that if I'm in remission and I have D for more than 2-3 days then let them know.

Flu like symptoms, joint pain, blurry vision, raw mouth with sores on occasion, fatigue, nausea, stomach pain, back pain, no appetite,UTI, and diarrhea or constipaton.  The severity and length vary.  I tend to be better in the summer for some reason?

Extreme fatique!  Canker sores!
My last flare started mid-August with extreme fatique.  I had an appointment with my GI for a regular follow-up appointment in mid-September.  He was p.o.'d that I hadn't called to get in to see him earlier.

fatigue and constipation actually..... I also get a little right side pain with movement. My beginning pains feel like "runner's cramp" before turning into the searing stabbing pain.

Same for me as jdiane and tall girl. Constipation and like a runner's cramp pain on my side. Plus the awesome loss of apetite and weight loss when things get fired up a little bit more. It can last a weekend or I'm still trying to shake this one I've had since early June...
Diagnosed 2002 at 18. Remission for about 7 years. Getting back into the swing of things at 26.

75mg Imuran, 750mg Balsalazide 3x day, Tapering Pred.

Maybe flaring...maybe not?

Okay, that's a tad freaky that three people in a row have said their first sign of a flare is constipation, as my constipation seems to be getting worse. I don't know if it's constipation in the true sense of the word because when I go it's still liquid. I just go so much less than I used to. I'm not getting much in the way of pain, though - just a constant ache, deep in the pit of my stomach above my belly button and central, not right-sided.

In the past, though, diarrhoea has always been my main sign of Crohn's. Chronic diarrhoea which never went away. I don't really know if this was part of the Crohn's or not but back in 2005 I started to become very ill with fevers. Those lasted on and off for about two years, then disappeared as mysteriously as they came. (Since then I have had low-grade fevers, but nothing like the high fevers of a few years ago.)

Initially it was RUQ pain and took a long time to progress. Now I tend to see more frequent, looser stools as the first sign. It doesn't take long after that lately, but I've had a really bad past couple of years with my cd compared to prior years. I think it was the stress.
Dxd CD in 2003. Scope Aug/09 shows UC.

My Crohn's, originally dx as UC, started with urgency and then just passing blood/mucus. Sometimes the urge to go, but nothing comes out... Just a colon spasm (tenesmus). This went on for about 6 weeks, then just stopped. 9 months later it started up again out of the blue and I went onto the ASA-5 meds right away. They didn't work so a few months later I was put onto steroids. After that, the dx was switched to Crohn's (anal tags, fissure, and skip areas) and I was put on Remicade. That put me into remission for 2 years.

Fatigue and dry skin (particularly noticeable on my feet). Sometimes an eczema-type rash on my shin. Within a couple of days my stomach starts to sound like there's a caged, rabid beast within. After that comes urgency and all the unpleasantness.

CD diagnosed in 2007
Spent a whole year wondering why no drugs worked for me, only to find out it was probably c-diff (which didn't show up with the regular tests) the entire time. Now I'm retrying all the meds and finding success!

The very first sign I get is nausea, when brushing my teeths. Then over the next few days comes the other symptoms: constipated diarrhea (if that makes sense), nausea at all times, extreme fatigue, weight loss...

Nausea, after I eat because it usually can't get through due to swelling or lord forbid an obstruction. Mouth sores too.
