My neice started having symptoms of a flare up. (hers are different than mine) She went to her GI doc and she told her to keep taking her meds and ordered some blood work.  My brother told me today that she is not having a flare according to her bloodwork.  I have always considered my symptoms worsening to be a beginning of a flare.  Didn't realize that bloodwork confirms it or not.  So question is, if she is having the symptoms ie vomiting & pain is couldn't it be her crohns?
Diagnosed with CD 2006.  Refused to take meds until recently started Colazal.
Currently on Prednisone 40mg. Tapering down, now on 20mg.
Colazal 3xday, Antioxidant strips
 Off of the Prednisone!!

I don't always rely on what the blood work says. In my case I have had bloodwork come back normal and was doubled over in pain, D 10+ times a day, and felt like crap and knew I was flaring. Other times I have felt perfectly fine and my blood work came back abnormal.

Personally, I go by what my body is telling me. Hope she gets this straightened out.
Dx'd w/ Crohn's in 1979 at age 13. Bad flare 2008 but no health insurance so I dealt with it. Colonoscopy in July 2009 caused a perforated colon, emergency bowel resection. 2 fistula's, perianal and perivaginal.

Humira, probiotic, a multivitamin, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and fish oil. I also take Tramadol 50 mg and Klonopin (for anxiety) as needed.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance!

I think the drs will use the bloodwork levels to confirm what the patient says. But sometimes it does not reflect what you are feeling. I know my dr would tell me that the bloodwork confirms that the crohns is in remission, and I'll tell him to please tell my stomach that so it can cooperate with the bloodwork. Like the greyeyedblond, I listen to what my body is telling me and I would think those symptoms would tell me I'm in a flare and need to do something about it. Good luck.

My blood work always comes back normal.  Thankfully, the ER doctors know me from being there so often and they will try to help me.  If my GI isn't on call and one of the partners ar on, they tell the ER doc to give me percocet and send me home.

Bloodwork and tests don't ever confirm what's going on with me either. I've been doubled over in pain and had normal bloodwork and tests done. It's really frustrating. I hate having to try to get my doctor to believe that I'm not making things up. Luckily my GI does believe me. I don't complain, except when I really can't handle things. I think we know our bodies, what's normal for us and what isn't, and you have to go with that, and get your doctors to treat your symptoms, not your labs.

I've been in the middle of a flare (including symptoms such as bleeding, so it wasn't in my head) and my labs have come back 'normal'.

CD diagnosed in 2007
Spent a whole year wondering why no drugs worked for me, only to find out it was probably c-diff (which didn't show up with the regular tests) the entire time. Now I'm retrying all the meds and finding success!
