Hi, I'm new to the forum and was diagnosed with 4 fistulas in May. I had surgery in May to place 4 setons and clear out old abcesses and recently had my second surgery to tighten the setons. The surgeon told me it was the worst case he's ever seen so I was curious to see how many people have multiple fistulas. I'm in quite a bit of pain usually and have been told to quit my job and also uni which was really difficult to hear. The surgeon also thinks I might have Crohn's disease and I have a colonoscopy scheduled for a couple of weeks time. I'm a 19 year old girl and so have found it quite an embarrassing subject but I have found it really helpful reading other people's stories :-) .

I have one fistula that tracts to two different openings. With Crohn's (if that's what you have) the people who have fistulizing disease do tend to get them. I'm sure you'll hear from others with multiple fistulas.

Good luck with them! And, welcome to HW!

I used to have 3 fistulas. I took epsom salt baths every night, which provided some relief. I've been fistula free for a little over a year now (thanks to SCD). It's so awful to have butt problems! Absolutely one of the worse ways that crohn's manifests itself :-(
35 years old, Crohn's disease for 15 of them

Current Meds: LDN, Pentasa, Effexor XR

I had four fistulas many years ago before I was diagnosed with Crohns. I'd had a surgery a month before they found the fistulas. They ended up keeping me off food and liquids for 9 weeks. I only had IV meds and nutrients. They eventually decided to cut them out. I had one going to the surface of my lower abdomen (where I'd had a drain put in and removed a few days after that first surgery), another connecting intestine to bladder, another going from intestine to intestine and the final one went from intestine to empty inner cavity of lower abdomen.
Allergies and Asthma my whole life: Benadryl
Depression and PTSD after surgeries and illness of 2003 (turned out to be Crohns)
Crohns Dx'd: February 2008: Pentasa, Hyoscyamine
Fibromyalgia Dx'd: July 21, 2009: Lyrica, Cymbalta, Hydrocodone, Prenatal Vitamin
