I've started having pain in my back in the 'flank' area near the kidneys.  This is new for me.  I know this can go with a kidney infection, but I don't have any other symptoms for that.  Is flank pain common with CD?

I've been feeling generally lousy for the last 4 or 5 days.  Not sleeping well.  Mostly on a clear diet to see if it help eases the pain in my stomach and back.  Ate some noodles over mashed potatoes last night and not having any problems.  Does that mean the flare is easing up?

Thoughts?  Thanks.

If the pain gets bad enough that you can't sit still you shoulw probably investigate the possibility of a kidney stone.

I often have flank pain when my crohns flare. I believe it is a combination of things. One is inactivity, I have not been able to do as much lately so I have been on the couch (bad posture). Two, if you have a partial obstruction this can cause pressure in your back. Also, dehydration can affect your kidneys if you already have a kidney stone making it a prime time to move. Finally, UTI's/kidney infections come on crohns patients easier because of dehydration and how we do not drink/eat absorb our food properly. Good luck.

Thanks.  I think it was just pain from a mini flare.  The stomach pains got really bad for a few days along with the D.  This was my first flare - since I've been diagnosed and knew what it was, that is.  I read somewhere about going on a clear diet for a few days when flaring so I tried that.  Seemed to really help.  I most always drink plenty of water, even before got this dx.  I added Gatorade to the clear liquids for a boost.  After a few days I felt better.  I'm sure my inactivity didn't help me any.  Hard to want to do much when so tired......and have to be near the bathroom.

Does the D ever really go away!!!???
