The problem with antibiotics is that even though they kill bad bacteria like C Diff, they also kill the beneficial flora. Then the C Diff can reappear when the course of antibiotics ends because there are no longer good flora to compete against.
Saccharomyces boulardii is a probiotic yeast that is immune to antibiotics. It is one of the beneficial flora. Research shows that it is one of the most effective probiotics targeting C Diff and keeping it from reinfecting the intestine. You can buy it by itself or under the brand name Florastor.
It may be a good idea to also include a more conventional probiotic to recolonize the good guys in your gut and not allow room for the bad guys to take over again. You can never have too many probiotics. That should help prevent future C Diff infections.
