Hi there!  i am new here but have been lurking and already have learned alot and gained some perspective on my particular case of CD.  I was diagnosed in 2007 and have flares off and on.  I am currently on Lialda and 6MP which seem to be doing an OK job.  Stress really plays a part in my flares and as a working mother of two, haven't found a great way to reduce that!

I do have one question.  Since I find my self "sitting" and "going" often, I seem to have developed hemorrhoids.  I am not sure if they are external or internal but I wouldn't be surprised if they were both.  I really don't want to have surgery to remove them but they are getting VERY VERY bothersome!  Does anyone else suffer from these and if so, have you found anything other than surgery that helps?

Thanks for any insight you may have and thanks for your candid posts.  I am thrilled to have stumbled upon this site.

I notice those where  never had before.  You may have to ask the GI.  He may presibe a cream better than PPH, or possibly some suppositories to help with reducing them.  Other than that I have no personal knowledge.

Many Crohnies can have skin tags too. These when flaring can become quite swollen and painful. But also we tend to have hemmoroids too. I would bring this to your doctors attention and see what he says. Hugs and welcome to Healingwell.

I have both internal and external hemorrhoids. I also have skin tags. I developed the hemorrhoids from childbirth and years of cramping diarrhea that lead to over straining thereby causing them.

I haave one particular one that goes "rogue" on me. It swells, bleeds lots, and hurts to sit on. My doctor has prescribed a combo cream that has both a steroid to reduce inflammation and lidocaine to deal with the pain. I asked about having the "rogue" removed and he said NEVER.

My GI explained that if a person with CD has a hemorrhoid removed, there could be cause for the disease to slow healing and/or activate the disease at the removal site. I know another member here had extensive skin tags and had them removed and Crohn's started up in her rectum.

There are several ointments specifically made for hemorrhoid treatment. In my opinion, over the counter ones aren't worth the money. I never found them to be very effective and one of the more heavily advertised ones burned like crazy when I used it. Also, keeping the area super clean helps. I use flushable moistened wipes after a BM. Any fecal particulate left after a BM can cause irritation to hemorrhoids. Sitting in a warm bath also is very soothing to irritated hemorrhoids.
