My daughter seems to have a minor case of Impetago. Small outbreak at the corners of her mouth and chin and nose. I've read several posts regarding skin disorders. Does anyone have any experience with this? Could it be Crohns related or even an Imuran side effect? Going to try a few days of Polysporin before making a Dr.s appt.

Definitely not sure about it being Impetago. After some amateur research, it seems to be Impetago. She doesn't have any mouth sore inside her mouth at all.

If it is impetigo, I suggest she go to the Dr. sooner rather than later because I had it as a child and since my parents delayed getting me to the Dr for a few days and now I have several bad scars on my face from it. The scars are small donut shaped and I am still self conscious about them. Hope she is feeling better soon!

I don't know anything about what you mention but I get angular cheilitis, which I get sores at the corner of my mouth. For me it has to do with yeast, and having a supressed immune system.

I wish you and your daughter luck that it gets figured out!

I had impetigo when I was a kid. I had to be kept away from other children. My mother was told it was very catchy.

I had something that they thought was impetigo, they gave me mupirocin, basically a prescription strength polysporin, and it seemed to clear it up.

I'd try the polysporin, but also follow up with the doc.

The more I live with this disease, the more stuff I find to blame on it. I don't at all doubt that impetigo is one of them. I'd like to also blame it for my lawn not being mowed in the last few weeks, but not sure if anyone will buy that story.

Endeavor8:

After further amatuer research, it seems that the angular cheilitis you mention fit her symptoms almost exactly.

Any chance you can elaborate further on your experience with it?

It seems that it can be Crohn's related, and possibly caused by yeast or immunosuppression or even vitamin deficiency.

Right now it's mostly cracked corners of her mouth that's evident. Started using Polysporin.

I'm making a Dr.'s appt. for her today.

Thanks,

Tom.

When I was in the hospital they gave me and anti-fungal cream which helps, but I also use monistat, which may sound weird, but its yeast related so it works. I have to try and avoid as much sugar as I can because it feeds the yeast. And I try to drink as much water as I can because it says that it helps.

I started developing it when the remicade started to wear off, and we doubled the dose so my immune system was extra compromised. That didn't work so I switched to Humira.

It comes and goes, depending on how well I stay away from yeast and other things I'm sure. Right now I'm on two different antibiotics so it's acting up, but I keep it under control with what I mentioned above.

I hope you have luck and get answers!

I hope you were able to see a doctor and get some help, but I just wanted to at the Baking Powder really helps and so does soap, it helps dry it out which is what it doesn't like.

Thanks Endeavor,

Haven't been to the Dr. yet, made an appt. for Tuesday. She's been putting Polysporing on, and it seems to be quite abit better. The one thing that she did say, is that she seems to get this when she eats very salty foods, like salt and vinegar chips. Does that make any sense?

Yeah that makes sense, because the starch of the chip is going to feed the yeast if that is what really is going on. And the salt and vinegar will agitate the sores, because they are open. I don't really know if it causes it as far as for me, but salty food definitely really bother me. Salt in a open wound ouch.

Good luck with the appointment tuesday, if you don't mind if I ask what he or she says? And you're welcome!

Update:

My daughter had her Dr.'s appt. today. She concluded that she has a bacterial (infection?). She said it was similar to Impetago, and definitely not Angular Cheilitis, which she has treated before, and is familiar with. She perscribed Fucidin cream for a couple of weeks. Hopefully it does the trick.

Thanks,

Tom.

Hey Endeavor, I get that in the corners of my mouth sometimes too. My dentist actually is the one who told me to put a little Monistat on it too. Works everytime for me too. Hugs!
