I tend to hide my feelings, especially when I'm sick. So my husband has learned to ask me really directly how I feel (not "how are you today?" but "how is your gut today, and your knee, and your stomach, and your hip?" LOL) and he comes with me to GI appts, too, so he can ask his own questions. Perhaps your wife can join you at your next meeting with your GI and be a full partner in dealing with your Crohn's.
She's already been joining me at my appointments, and I go with her to any she has. She wasn't able to go with to the colonoscopy because of work, but she took a half day in the afternoon. She takes good care of me, even when there's not a lot she can do. I really don't know what I'd do without her anymore. She's already following up the questions with 'Are you sure?'. I think it was more me keeping her away from my pain, but that's changing.
Part of it is that I don't want her to worry, but I also need to not carry the burden myself.
