Your doctor should have specified which manner he/she wanted you to take it. It also depends what condition is being treated.

For me, it is always prescribed to take first thing in the AM with food. I have insomnia something horrible from it and can't sleep if I take it later in the day.

Best thing is to ring your physician and asked to have the instructions clarified.

As Ides said, it is best to check with your doctor, but most of us take Prednisone first thing in the morning to avoid the insomnia issue.

With any steroid it should be taken in the morning as this is when naturally your body's hormones, that the steroid mimics, are at their optimum.

Guess I'm the odd man out. I've always had sleeping issues and the pred doesn't seem to make it any worse. It seems to work better for me spacing it out. I'm on 30 and I take it 5am/11am/5pm.

Still, I've always had strange sleeping habits so take that for what it's worth.

I have to take it as early as possible in the mornings to help avoid the insomnia symptoms. Hugs!

I think the doctor should advise you on tapering.

No! The 10mg every twelve hours is not a mistake. You know your own body, and what regimen best suits you. Sometimes taking a dose of pred every twelve hours can give you more stability than you'd get if you took the whole dose in the morning.

I have been on both types of regimen: whole dose in the morning; dose spit and taken every twelve hours. Both were suitable for me *at that time* and were done on my doctor's advice.

Just talk with your doctor and work out what is best *for you*, and go with that :-).

All the best,
