I never bothered to ask, but when my GI diagnosed me with Crohn's it was Crohn's Colitis which is ever so slighty different to CD in the way it manifests itself, he went on to explain, but I kinda zoned out . . . . . . tongue

What exactly is the difference? If any?

My understanding of it is Crohn's Disease involves the ilieum.  Crohn's Colitis involves mainly the colon (no ilium).  I have been diagnosed with so many different terms..Crohn's Disease, Crohn's Colitis, Pan Colitis...etc.  All I can tell is that I am infected with CD in some form and regardless of the name, the treatments are all the same.  I used to stress over the different names..now I couldn't care less what they call it.

I've been told I have Crohn's Colitis, but at my last colonoscopy/endoscopy I had inflammation/ulcers at my TI, throat, and stomach. But that was over a year ago. I'm sure the type of CD you have changes as the disease is always progressing and moving places.

Crohn's colitis just means that is where it is primarily visible right now. The disease is the same wherever it pops up, from mouth to anus. I'd just call ot Crohns and be done with the semantics.

I was diagnosed in the TI, but have been diagnosed with colitis several times. I have another colonoscopy coming up so may learn more but like others, it seems as if it's common for it to be in more than one place..

I have had active disease mainly in my TI when Dx as well as many years thereafter...I needed surgery back in 07 and 3 more to follow in that same 12 month time frame and in that time it traveled to new locations I have anal skin tags now from the CD and have had 3/4 of my colon removed due to a combination of active disease and adhesions as well as ilius (sp?) where my colon didnt fully wake post op

I thought that there were 4 diffrent varieties of Crohns.. the Most popular being Ileitis, effecting the Ileium. 50% of all Crohns is Ileitis. Colitis is when its in the colon... then the two others affect the other 2 small bowl sections. All of which are Crohns Disease but just hit diffrent parts of the digestive track. With me my colon was in great shape but the pain and problems come from the TI=Ileitis. I dont know if they treat all of it with the same drugs or if its all treated the same way. Too new to this to know the answer to that.
When the surgeon suspected Ileitis in me he said.. You know we are talking about Crohns? So thats the way it was explained to me.

Generally crohn's is more commonly found in the small intestine, when it's in the colon it's labelled as crohn's colitis because "colitis" means inflammation in the colon specificially and it's less common for CD to appear in the colon compared to the small intestine, so that is the only difference...of course different meds are used to treat CD affecting the colon (the same meds used to treat ulcerative colitis are generally used to treat crohn's colitis since UC is mainly a disease of the colon (but often with rectal involvement)...when you have crohn's colitis it's also more common for the crohn's to also affect the rectom and or the anus as well, but it's not written in stone either and as usual it varies from patient to patient....

When I first became sick with CD, it was affecting my anus (which is where it actually started, externally with perianal crohn's skin tags) then moved internally affecting my rectom, colon, and TI all at the same time for about 2 yrs before it finally subsided in the TI, but has remained constant in my colon and anus, on and off in the rectom.

There are 5 subtypes of crohn's disease, check out this link....

Hope this helps!

Crohn's colitis is still crohn's disease. It is just another way of saying that a person has Crohn's disease mainly of the colon. It is not a different disease.
