I am still awaiting the results from my capsule endoscopy and honestly I am scared and anxious.
I have been doing some research online on some of the medications to treat crohns and noticed quite a few of them are carcinogens. This is really scaring me. Do any of you think about what risks these medications will impose on our overall health. I know sometimes the quality of our life now out ways the what if factors but I can't imagine how our lives would be with crohns and cancer running amuck through our lives.
Right now I am currently on salofalk only, started with 3 a day and now I am at 8 a day with each increase I felt better for a few days then symptoms and diarrhea returned so I know that he will have to try another type of medication or add something else to what I am currently taking and all the drugs that come next are really scary. Some days I feel as there is no hope

I hate the risks, but for me it comes down to quality of life now versus later. A later that I really have no idea I'll get. Not even necessarily because of cd. Just the "I could get hit by a bus" thing. Not that I am in any hurry to die but really, if I'm miserable from being sick, I really lose my desire to live a long life anyway.

I feel the same as heatmiser, I would rather have 20+ good years in health where I can live my life and accept there is a slight possible increased risk of cancer than have 20+ years of rubbish existance and not being able to live my life because the CD is too bad to do anything.

Don't forget that as CD is an immune system problem this could mean that we have an increased risk of cancer anyway and not just due to biologics, this is something science doesn't know. Someone else has posted a thread on here about biologics and that they may actually protect against some types of cancer, interesting point. I think sometimes we only look at the negative effects and the 'what could be' scenerios but these have to be put into perspective, the data so far shows that incidence of these drugs causing cancer is very, very low but if left untreated it could develop into something worse anyway.

Ultimately everyone has to make their own choice and decide whether it is right for them, so I can only suggest that everyone read up on all the information available good and bad and decide from there. Only you will know if it is right for you.
