I was suppose to go in yesterday and get a fistula plug, but my insurance turned me down saying that fistula plugs were experimental. Has anyone heard this? I know a few people here have had plugs so I was just wondering if they had any trouble with insurance?

Hmmm, they have been out for a few years. I wouldn't think they would be experimental. You do know about the failure rate for those with crohn's right?

Idk know what the failure rate is for these....but the failure rate for ANY trying to fix of a fistula is not very good so it really can't hurt to try anything. Especially if you've never had it tried before, if you don't try something because of percentages then that might be the one thing that actually would have helped you.

You might want to get your doctor, your surgeon, to call the insurance company and explain to them that this has been out for many years, its no where near considered experimental...thats just their 'reasoning' or 'excuse' whatever you may call it to not have to pay for it, which in actuality they WILL end up paying for it in the end anyway, whether they pay for it TODAY or next week, they'll pay for it, they just want to see if your doctor will call them, odds are, thats all it will take is one call from the doctor and immediatly they'll change their mind.
