I am doing my injections just before bed and taking some Tylenol and lots of water. Methotrexate makes me tired and gives me a bit of a headache for about 36 hours, by doing it before bed I get to sleep thrus the worst of it. IF you start to experience some hair loss I highly recommend Biotin, a great supplement for hair nails and skin. I get mine at Costco.
Good luck. I hope you find none of this applies. :-)

my doc told me not to give the injections in my leg (to many larger veins) so my wife was going to give them to me in the arm until she say the needle and she couldnt do it. She thought it would be like an insulin shot. So where do you give them I would prefer doing it at home?
thanx

Hi, I was on methotrexate for 9 years in total, pill form for 7.5 years, injections for 1.5 years. Injections are much better than the pills I found side effect wise, best advice is to do it just before you sleep to avoid being awake to experience them. I always found I'd be a bit of a zombie the next day and feel a bit sick but some good anti sickness pills should help that if needed, pick a day of the week if you can to take it where you don't have a lot to do the following day in case it does make you feel tired or spacey.
I always injected into my stomach, I'd do it really slowly over a few minutes or I'd find it hurt/sting quite a bit.
As for hair loss folic acid, b-vit complex and selenium work wonders! Mine did thin quite a bit when I first started but that did settle down. Weirdly I'd find the prescribed once weekly dosage of folic acid would make me feel quite sick so I started to take it just in a daily vitamin form and I tolerated that much better than one large dose.
Good luck! Hope it works well for you!

I just had my doctors appointment today. I am due for my 12th injection tomorrow and he told me to forget it. It hasn't been working for me at all.

For me, I was exhausted the following two days post injection and needed to sleep to feel better, but that's hard when you have a young child. Also at about eight weeks my hair started falling out, although I can't be positive that's not from the prednisone I recently came off of. Lastly, i was told to do the injections in my legs so that's where I've been doing them. How long did your doc tell you to wait to see if it works?

Hi

I am new here and do not know if I have Crohn's, but I have dxed lupus and have taken methotrexate in the past for 2 yrs.  Six months of oral and 18 months of injections.  Let me tell you, the injections are so much better.  Bypasses the stomach, so it got rid of the associated nausea, which was horrible with the oral dose. The injection is easy, was not painful at all for me.  The needle is so very tiny and I never felt it at all.  I gave it to myself every Monday night at 10PM.  That way, if I was going to get tired or sick, it would hit me about Tuesday afternoon and I would be much better by weekend and could possibly enjoy friends and family that worked during the week.  I gave myself the injection in the upper thigh.  Easy place to see and easy to do yourself.  Does not have to go into a muscle.  I did not have any hair loss with it either.  Just a lot more fatigue than usual.

Just remember to only take it once a week at the same time each week and always remember to take your folic acid.  I hope this makes you feel better about taking it and I also hope it makes your disease much much better!

I've been on oral for about 5 months and found it made me tired for a few weeks but other than that no side effect. In fact my thin straight hair has become thicker and wavy.
