Anyone who has read any of my posts over the last couple years may recall I had been missing out on participating in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu while I had my ostomy bag. It was an unpleasant 16 months and a rough two years missing work. I've been back to work for a little over a month and just this past weekend I took 3rd in my division in my first grappling tournament. Not bad, I think, considering I was coming off two surgeries, one ostomy bag, and only 4 months of training after my return. I figured I could be a touch braggy here. :)

That's fantastic man! Please keep posting about your success, it's a great motivator.

I race bikes and am sitting out this season due to this mess. I've been pretty concerned about getting back in shape as I've lost a ton of weight and haven't ridden in 7 months, but stories like yours are just fantastic to hear.

Keep it up and keep telling us about it.

To pmedic, thanks much and right back at you. To everyone else thanks a lot I appreciate the congrats. I'm so glad you guys think of it as motivating to hear stuff like this...I, actually, was thinking of starting a blog about this stuff. I, generally, would think "who gives a crap about what I have to say" but I know I looked all over the internet for someone with Crohn's, and or, an ostomy(when I had one) who did BJJ/grappling so I could say "well that one guy does it so I can too." I never found one online so I thought maybe if I put one up...someone one of these days might see it and feel like they could stick it out too. I appreciate it you guys really and next time I compete, if I don't embarrass myself I'll throw the result back up here. hehe

I agree, totally, and thanks for the kind words. I know about David Garrard, he's one of my favorite players I'm a bit of a football geek and I knew of him when he played at ECU in college. He became the starter for the Jaguars the same month/year I got diagnosed lol(unfortunate circumstances but I still thought it was sort of neat). I got his jersey that year for Christmas. Takedowns and lots of the positions in BJJ are definitely hard on the stomach but I can't imagine not being on the mat if I'm able to. I hope that some of this stuff I post does just that, it encourages some people, both younger and older, to try and push forward and not let the disease define them. I'll keep 'em coming and if any of you guys reading this have some positive stuff of your own..throw it out there for us.
