Although I posted the same thing in the UC forum, I want some Crohn Forum's words too.

Every grocery store is packed like a colony of ants. The water and the canned food section have been emptied out by the people. Even all the beers are gone.

Seems like most people aren't underestimating this upcoming natural disaster. Not saying that we should.

The current max wind sustained at 100mph and up to 115mph, according to the news.

This hurricane's supposed to hit my area on Sunday. I live in NYC but at the very far end. An hour drive away from Manhatten.

Is anyone in the way? planning to evacuate temporarily? Or getting something special to withhold Irene's bloody attack?

I don't eat canned food so I bought a portable burner, fueled by butane gas, to cook some food when everything goes out. Stacked up with Evian water and my favorite beverages that I tolerate very well, goat milk and OJ.

I love cup ramen noodles but can't have em no more. It sux for people like me who don't tolerate such food that contain MSG, preservatives, etc. too well during these circumstances.

*This is not related to Crohns and is off topic, so I added it to your title*

I probably won't be at the top if the second ice age were to hit the world. Survival of the fittest, not my thing atm.

I live in Rockaway and we have been ordered to evacuate by 5pm tomorrow but I don't plan on going anywhere. I have a couple of cases of water and plenty of booze, canned beans and pbj fixings.

I am in the Boston area. I was surprised at the lack of people in the grocery store. No one seems to be too concerned except for the news people, that is all they can report on. I usually do my food shopping on Friday so the fridge was pretty bare today, but I didn't want to stock up on perishables just in case. I have plenty of non-perishables and propane for the grill, so all set there. Plus my stove is gas, so I can cook on that. I am a bit worried about losing power since I have a full stand alone freezer and I don't want to lose my stock pile of chicken, home made soup and meals.

My daughter is home for the week and has to change her flight. She is suppose to fly home to Annapolis during the height of the storm. The stores near her were completely out of water and all canned goods. Her fiance is in the Coast Guard and all the boats/ships are being sent out to sea in preparation. Its been a bit crazy the number of times his orders have changed due to the changes of Irene.

My father, who should know better at 75, left a few hours ago, to go camping with my step-mother and her side of the family in the woods of New Hampshire. "We'll be all set up before Irene hits and it should only be some rain and wind up there." Is he crazy? I was suppose to be doing a 5K charity run/walk in New Hampshire on Sunday and it got moved to tomorrow because of Irene, but my father is going to camp. Lunatic! Apparently I got my brains from my mother.

I hope everyone stays safe. I will be hunkering down in my house and playing movies if I have power, or board games if I don't, maybe a nap.......

The center of the storm looks like it's going directly over my town. I plan on hunkering down in the barn when it gets bad as I have sooo many 100 ft. tall pine trees that are in position to fall on my house if the wind is as bad as they say it will be. So, I have put a lounger/bed out there right next to a huge support beam, plugged in the barn refrig for now, set up a bed for my dog out there, and have taken out a portable stove, cans of spaghetti, chicken noodle soup, pbj, Ritz crackers and Kraft canned cheese, lots of water, V8 juice, etc. I assume the power will be out for 3 or 4 days. Got two library books and tons of batteries for the lanterns, flashlights. Will move back into the house after the storm passes.

The storm is raging as I type. Still have power, hope it stays that way. I live in Norfolk, Virginia. The beginning of the week we had an earthquake and now a hurricane. Talk about an active week!!! Zanne, my son is in the Coast Guard. He is stationed in Portsmouth, Va.

Nitat, I hope your son stays safe during the storm (you too of course). My Future SIL is stationed in Baltimore. My daughter is very nervous about him. Its the first "event" she has had to endure since they got together. I am glad she is home with us instead of alone worrying. Take care everyone.
