Hi, I'm new to this forum. My son was diagnosed with Crohn's 4 years ago when he was almost 13. He was diagnosed by colonoscopy and endoscopy and deemed to have a fairly severe case. Fortunately, he did not have pain and diarrhea....his problem was growth failure. After 2 years of unsucessful treatments he turned 15 and started on Remicade. At that time he was 5'2" and weighed 91 lbs. He just turned 17 last week after being on Remicade for 2 years he now weighs 125 lbs and is 5'9.5" tall. He has gained 34 lbs and grown 7.5 inches in 2 years.
I just joined this group today because I read another post by someone whose son has a similar situation and the GI wants to start him immediately on Remicade. I can't seem to find her again yet. I'm guessing that her GI wants to start w/ Remicade immediately so her son does not miss the window of opportunity for growth. Hopefully, they did a bone age x-ray to determine her son's bone age and hopefully it's younger than he is, which means he has longer to grow. I'm glad to find this forum and be of any help regarding our experience with Remicade or my son's situation.
*You attached to a 3 year old post, so I started a new one so you would get more responses*
