Six weeks ago I have a remi infusion, at week 10 due to travel and not being able to get it while abroad. Within 48 hours of the infusion I had a really bad cold, which turned into strep throat. This week I had my remi and within 48 hours, I have a really bad cold and my throat is so painful. Is this a common reaction to remicade or am I just having a streak of bad luck? Do I need to go to a doc or should I just wait it out and see if it happens again.

rolleyes Hi Dreamer,

I've only ever had 1 remicade infusion, and the same thing happened to me...and up to that point I never caught colds, flu or had any throat issues. Mine cleared up after a couple of weeks, but left me coughing like crazy for a while after.

I think I've read on here, not too too long ago that others had that same experience...unless it was on another forum. Take care and hope you feel better soon.

yea, unfortunatly it probabaly is the rem. I t did that to me, but mine was deep chesty cough with a lot of grey flem, I lasted about 8 infusions, I stopped rem. and went onto asacol, and fell into remission, lasted 10 days and i was rear ended on freeway, lady was doing 65, anyway, within 5-6 days was in full blown flare in my esph. and throat and mouth, also I've been in pretty consistent herpe flare since accident, so now it's imurran and pred. and it's the same with imurran, I copuld tell it has kicked in, because I started the same cough with the same flem(grey). so I'm on 50 mg of imuran and I bumped up pred to 15mg, my cough has gotten better and I've got flare under control in my mouth, so this tells me imuran isn't that effective, but pred is. so I'm, not sure what foots follows what.JMHO

I had my second infusion just today. I've been dealing with some chest tightness and pain since before the first one so I know it isnt the remicade causing it, but it could be prolonging it... I think the pain is reflux related or the fact that for 6 months ive done nothing.

I've only had two infusions(last one was tuesday) and I've got the same crud...I'm just goint to wait it out. I've had it for about a month now but a sore throat and some other cold symptoms are the least of my worries. I doubt it's infection..I keep telling myself maybe it's allergies but it's probably the Remicade plus allergies. It is cold/flu season and I know a lot of people in my area are getting the flu, cold, any virus you can think of(my brother has the stomach virus cry ) so you may just want to see your regular doctor first before calling up the GI. Your immune system is lowered so of course, common sense when going out and about :-)

If your on immunosuppressants/steroids that can exacerbate any other symptoms you have(Chest tightness, weird rashes,).

  Get well smilewinkgrin !!
