I've been on the verge of posting this for a while, but have been dreading the inevitable lewd responses from certain members (Sniper? Snohare? tongue turn could I possibly mean you? ) yeah

Anyway, how do you keep yourself entertained in bed when you're too tired to do much else? I read, of course, and have a beaut pillow to hold books so I don't have to contend with their weight (see thebookseat.com if you're interested), and I have the radio, and audiobooks, and music, and things like that, but they only work for so long, and there comes a point when the old brain is too tired to absorb information and just wants to faff. Craft / needlework / writing are out, as they involve sitting up and a fair bit of thought and movement.

Any ideas? I thought about nintendo, as those handheld consoles look pretty light, but many of the games just seemed silly.

I'm not exactly tech savvy, so maybe I'm unaware of something else that's light, and entertaining, and good. All and any ideas gratefully received with many thanks,

Ivy.

Ivy- I have been nonweight bearing on my left leg due to surgery on my left femoral condyle ( prednisone caused my bone to die) so I have been stuck sitting or walking on crutches for the past 7 weeks! As I am stuck in my bed or my recliner, I have spent a lot of time on the computer crossposting for shelter animals needing a home and also getting poorer by donating to animal rescue organizations! I also am very good with the TV remote!
That is how I have spent my time. I will be reading the posts on this thread to give me a few ( and cheaper) ideas on how to spend my days!

turn Crosswords !

idea I listen to the radio with great frequency eyes when the dog is not snoring too loudly in her bed. I also have plants growing on the windowsill, which I occasionally water ( nono No,

not as a labour saving device. Are you accusing me of taking the shocked !)
I am self censoring every other pun that springs to mind, singlehandedly. smilewinkgrin
Oops dang, sorry blush

"Singlehandedly". LOL. LOLOLOOLOLOL. Thanks for that, Sno.

Crosswords are a great idea, but, unfortunately, require brain power. We're talking bad fibromyalgia fatigue, here: think muddled brain; inability to think straight; "losing" words; fatigue to the level that even playing patience (solitaire) or writing, or even sitting upright, can seem exhausting.

I need faff. Absolutely mindless, but repetitively absorbing, faff.

Wot's crossposting, pmedic? And how do you 'net from bed? Do you have a laptop?

I agree, Sno, thank heavens for the radio. And audiobooks are great, too.

my kids gave me a pink nintendo ds lite and I do the 'brain training' to keep my grey cells working (not sure I am a good recommendation for it though LOL).

I have a nice light 7" android tablet too I use for going online or reading ebooks with the lights off :)

Do share your pain - long nights lying exhausted but awake

How is the foot doing?

hugs

Glorious news, footwise, Kiwi: the dressings are off, and I am allowed to wash it and cut my toenails!! Both were desperately needed, and it was such a relief to be able to do it. LOL. Small pleasures, eh? I still can't stand on it for extended periods of time, but at least I'm starting to move around like more of a normal person.

My problem is still the stuff that landed me in Emergency earlier this month. The meds they gave me turned me into a zombie and were sparking Crohn's, so I was incredibly naughty and stopped them. It's not something I've ever done before, but I'm glad I did, and it's only a few more days until I can thrash it out with the gp, anyway.

I'm interested in the brain training, but I don't think it's the best thing to do when wiped out, physically and mentally.

I have faff games that I play here, on my desktop computer, and they help me a lot. The problem is that sometimes sitting upright is too hard, and at that point, reading is difficult too, as is craft and needlework and lots of other things. It's annoying and frustrating, because of COURSE we're also too alert and / or sore to sleep when we're feeling like that...

I hear you on the sleepless nights...

I have my kitties. They keep me endlessly entertained and need hardly any tending. They like to purr and sit near me. They play and I watch. Sometimes they snuggle and snore with me. Hubby does all the hard work (read litter box emptying, but outside would work if you have the right kind of kitty).

Yep, my catlings are my dear sleepy companions, too. And they're good: they generally go outside if they need to empty bladders or bowels.

They're comforting, aren't they? I love the way they make you feel as if you're doing them a favour when you go to bed!

Oh and I plan lots of trips on my laptop that I will probably never take. But its fun to dream and now I have lots of facts about all kinds of places.

Another great thing on the computer is Stumbling! Stumble.com. set up an account then just start stumbling. You find all kinds of cool sites you would never find. You can waste hours, oh I meant you can spend hours expanding your mind!

What about coloring? There are some beautiful mandala coloring pages (or just go for the kids ones), and you could get some nice colored pencils.

I play games on my iPod Touch a lot. It's small and light and would be easy to use lying down.

I have an iPod, but not an iPod Touch.

Would an iPad work as well? I'm guessing they're expensive, though...

What games do you play, please, Sarah? If I know, then I can hunt for them on the app store.

Unfortunately, the money-grabbing neighbours subdivided, so my bedroom windows now face a very solid wall. It's not a place birds like to come, understandably enough.

Wonderful idea, though. I might think about that, and see if I can rig up something by another window.

What sort of birds did you photograph?

Play station - that sounds big rather than lightweight?

Yeah, I've been drooling over an iPad so I can read on it as well, but it's expensive! I play Bejeweled and Yahztee most on my iPod, sometimes Angry Birds, but it usually requires some thinking. I like Mahjong too, There are a lot of fun, free apps that are time killers, like NASA for space videos or browsing photos, IMDB for looking up movie info and actors. I often browse the free apps and just download random stuff to play with, and then sometimes spend a few bucks on a game or app that catches my eye.

I have been super happy with my iPod Touch. It's small and portable, and I can check email and do some Web things on it. I have a cooking app, and use it a lot for recipes. The iPad would be nice since it's bigger, but I haven't been able to justify the price tag.

Ivy....I feel for you right now, it is hard like you said when you are alert and sore. I know they have a hand held game called a gameboy. It is lightweight and you could use it laying down. Hope that helps.

Take care, Amy turn smurf smurf turn yeah

YAY for clean sweet smelling feet :) and good luck with the GP visit.

My wee android tablet is a godsend - they are under NZ$200 now so in Oz I guess that would be $1 (ha ha antipodean joke about how much a kiwi dollar buys across the ditch). It is so light I carry it in my handbag as it is lighter than a book while waiting to see specialists etc and it is great for at night as it is backlit and I can change the font to suit my tiredness. I have a few games on it as well, plus a daily dilbert and the usual facebook and other websites. Best $199 I EVER spent.

take care and thanks zanne for another mind, expanding <ROTFLOL> website to visit!!!

Wow! Now, that sounds good, Kiwi. Thanks.

What games did you put on it, please? As I said to someone else, if I find some appealing ones, then I might save up and go ahead with it.

Are Androids Mac compatible? I really know very little about this stuff.

Thanks heaps.

*googles ipod touch*

*recoils at the $400+ price tag*

* sees there's a cheaper, $198 version*

What GB is your ipod touch, Sparkle?

Bejewelled is thoroughly evil and addictive :-). I already play it online sometimes :-)

Ivy- Crossposting is receiving of pictures of animals in shelters that are on death row that only have a few days before they are euthanized. I help spread the word to all my facebook friends by posting the pictures in hopes they may adopt or share the pictures with their friends also. There are so many dogs and cats in shelters that are euthanized every day, good animals that simply want a home.
That is what I do from home on my laptop while I am just sitting here! It can be very depressing but when one of the animals is saved, it is very rewarding!
