I was stunned this morning to get a letter saying my DLA has been agreed and that they will backdate it to October. So thrilled as will make a difference as having to reduce hours again at work due to the joint pain and exhaustion from the Lupus which I am still trying to get to grips with. Didn't have to appeal or anything they granted it as soon as questionnaire had been returned from my GP and no review date they have granted it indefinately. Also means I can apply for a disabled badge which means we can park nearer places which will make massive difference as walking ability is drastically reduced now.

It makes a difference knowing that although I have to reduce hours at work and this will reduce my salary that I have this money coming in, does take a weight off my mind and also means can afford to get some help with housework so my wonderful Hubby isn't working himself into the ground trying to work full time, look after me and keep house up straight. Still in a bit of shock that they agreed it, my GP said just before Xmas 'don't be down hearted if they decline at first as that isn't unusual.' so to be honest was expecting a letter saying just that.

That's so great to hear! I have an appointment with a volunteer disability group to help me fill in my dla form end of the month as I have heard horror stories of the application process! I've been advised that it is rarely awarded for crohns and my best bet is applying more on the basis of the arthritis, and that at best i might be able to get low rate care on the basis I can't prepare and cook a meal myself. I almost feel like I'm admitting defeat but I'm struggling working part time and without dla it seems no other help is available!
Out of interest what award did you get? I see you also have crohns arthritis was that the main basis of your claim?

Congratulations Stripey!!  That is wonderful news for you.  I am in the middle of applying for permanent disability myself, hoping I am as lucky as you.  Big hugs!

I applied for the form in beginning of October and so from start to finish was only 3 months and they back date it to the date they stamp on the form when they send it out as long as you send the completed form back to them inside 6 weeks so was excellent and really quick. Think it helps having the support of my GP in applying for it as they have to fill in this questionnaire sent to them by benefits agency. I know system is different from that over there and hope yours is as easy as mine was.

That's great news ...it's always nice to read something positive, i've been getting "illness" benefit for 5 years due to my arthritis...i've also just applied for a medical card (pays for GP visits and meds) under normal circumstances i don't qualify for this but in this year's budget out Govt brought in a scheme whereby anyone with long term illness will get at least a GP only card which means visits to the GP are free(normally 50 euro) ,Slainte
