After a 3rd reading, it turned out that pred made its fabulous side effect of hypertension after one year and a half. My reading was 160/100. I'm already in a severe stomach flare up and am a complete wreck and all what I needed at this phase is hypertension. So, any advice?

What do you mean a 3rd reading? Were the 1st two normal?

No, three successive readings were high 150/90 and 160/100, respectively.

You should lay on your left side for awhile and try to get the BP down.  Also call you doc so they know.

On a separate note - has anyone ever had super bad headaches after finishing a taper of prednisone?  My son has had debilitating headache for 3 days now.

Ah. I asked because my husband's GP once told him his blood pressure was high after he took it during an office visit. Immediately preceding the blood pressure reading the DR had tried to recruit my DH to be a financial supporter of one of his (the DR's) favorite charities. When my husband got home and told me what happened I was annoyed and entertained that this DR was such an ass.

Anyway, is it really true that you've been on pred for 18 months? That is crazy. What is the plan to get you off of steroids?

@Momofgreatkids . How does lying on the left side lower BP?
@ Kazbern. It's my 13th day after getting rid of pred. It seems that it didn't want to leave me without leaving a remarkable souvenir(: The stomach flare up had made me get rid of Methotrexate, pred and pentasa tablets all at one time. I don't know how my doc will just continue treating me with only Entocort. I take pentasa enema as my proctitis is flaring. Really depressing(:

Well, I think entocort should be very effective in the TI, but if you're having problems from pred it might be that the entocort is also causing systemic issues (sometimes it can do that after long term use). You might consider using a proton pump inhibitor (like omperazole) for upper GI pain. Steroids can cause reflux, too.

I had the same reaction from pred..I was put on 25mg of antenolol a bp medication. I am one of those long term predisone users try beginning of 09'..My bp was as high as yours with no relief..I ended up on thyroid medication as well..My bp symptoms were dizziness and headaches..It is hard to figure out whether it is CD, meds, or something else with symptoms..I would address the high bp..

@ Kazbern. Well, I have been on entocort for 2 months and a half now. I don't think it will differ if it causes Bp. I got it and it's done. I do take 80 mg of Nexium in addition to zantac 300 but seems that the falre up was quite strong this time.
@ Cindy. true, now I'm wondering is the cause of dizziness and fainting CD or bp. My mum has always had bp and my sister joined her recently but I never remember them complaining of fainting. It seems it's the tax we have to pay for taking pred. But can't you try to get rid of pred. The list of side effects is quite long and one could get severer side effects other than bp.
