I have not had any surgery. I had one stricture dilated by balloon.

Is your CD in a certain area?

My inflammation was found at the rectum and cecum. Small ulcers in the TI. On endoscopy I had gastritis and a stricture in the esophagus. So kind of random all over.

Most surgeries from what I can see happen because of striccturing in or around the terminal ileum, where 80% of Crohn's patients have some amount of inflammation. People with fistulizing Crohn's will also have surgeries to repair fistulas.

No surgery here. My cd is mostly active in the rectum. I'm not in remission as I was on Remicade but it's sort of managed.

No surgery here. I'm not in remission and my Crohn's affects various parts of my digestive system from mouth to anus. I'm hoping that this second biologic will put me in Remission.

I am gettong a lot of scar tissue so I'm hoping that I won't have to have any surgery because of it. Then again a few months ago I was determined never to go on a Biologic unless I was desperate and here I am on my second one Hahhahaa.

MikeB is another member here who has had Crohns for a very longtime who has never had to have surgery. He is maintained only on 6mp and has been on that for over 10 years. So be sure to stay on your meds! That helps to keep the disease under control. You might get little flares in there, but adding either Pred or another med to your med mix can help to quiet things back down quickly. Good luck!

I haven't had surgery yet and although I've only been diagnosed for about 3 months I don't know if it will be a great option because it's lower into my rectum and in various other parts so it would be hard to remove it all. Just keep on meds like other people say and hope for the best! I can't see myself needing the surgery but you never know! Just be careful and hope for remission! :)

Diagnosed in '02 and no (Crohn's related) surgery yet... Imuran an Pentasa seem to be doing well for me right now (with the occasional need for a pred burst)

This month marks 23 years since diagnosis, and I had my only surgery last summer.

Like Clonehead I had had the disease for 22 years before I had to have my first surgery. Good luck!

To remove intestine? No, I've been lucky so far to keep all my insides. However I did have surgery to fix a rectal fistula, that was before I even knew I had Crohn's. I've also had my Gallbladder out, and it was really inflamed. My fingers are crossed that I won't lose any intestines, but I know it's pretty common at some point.
