I have Crohns DX in July 2004. GI has prescribed "everything". Bowel resection in September 2011, reverse ileostomy February...but last colonoscopy revealed Crohns is back and I'm currently flaring.
I was prescribed prednisone 40 mg, mesalamine enemas, and Hydrocodon (5-325).
My question is what is the average length of time a GI will continue to renew my Hydrocodon prescription? I know we are all different, but if I could get some feed back on how long --if ever--you were given an "as needed for pain" Hydrocodon prescription.
It makes such a difference in me. No more "tailbone" discomfort, I can sleep without waking to use the bathroom (w/o hydrocodon I wake every 20 to 40 minutes at night to run to the bathroom... if I take a pill that day = get up twice during the seven hours of "sleep" I get at night. I can take my son to the park in the afternoon (with less fear of an accident).
In the past I stayed away from pain meds, never asked for them, but now that I experience life with this crutch ... I want to continue atleast until I begin Tysabri.
Currently take 1.5 pills/day. I'm running out and want to have a conversation with my GI, but before I do I seek your advice.
What are "safe" amounts/duration?
P.S. I hate Crohn's Disease
