I have had crohns for about 20 years..My taste buds are so messed up right now...everything i eat taste funny. This has been happening for a long time now...I have told my doctor but he doesn't say much about it. Anything i eat or drink really has no taste but some things just have a weird taste to it...sometimes my tongue feels numb...so not sure what to do about this..has anyone else experienced this?????

What meds are you currently on? The only med I ever took that interfered with my taste was Flagyl, but that was short term.
33 - DX 06/23/11 with Crohns Ilecolitis
Meds - Remicade, Xanax, Zoloft, Prilosec, Coreg, Lisinopril, Lasix, Klor Kon
Drug Allergy to Imuran - Sepsis / Renal Failure / Pancreatitis
Crohn's seems to be doing ok, currently dealing with edema in ankles and feet.

Hi Angela,

I've had flaring CD for 21 yrs now but have not noticed those issues you're having with my taste buds...I don't know if it's CD related or not since CD is so individual...did you discuss it with your GI or your GP? I'd ask both, you might end up with a different answer from each of them.

Hope it's nothing serious, but I'd look into it more.
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
Hi Angela.  I had this issue all last year and no one had any viable reasons since I was only on Pentasa (yes Flagyl did give me whacked out tastes when I was on it though).  What I figured out on my own eventually was that my toothpaste was just too harsh for my mouth/gums/lips.  I was using a whitening toothpaste - ProHealth by Crest.  I switched to a sensitive version of Crest Pro Health (I think that's the name) that is NOT whitening.  I also got rid of the antibacterial mouth rinse that had whitening in it.  My tastes have pretty much gone back to normal.  I still find I lost my taste for chocolate - but my mom always said our taste buds change as we age...and well I have aged.
I still would ask your docs, but I hope this gives you somewhere to start.
