Hi, can anyone tell me the best pro-biotic to take for UC? My son is 20. He has gone through every medication except humira and nothing has worked. At the moment he is well, very thin, D about 8 times per day. He also takes 3mls of LDN. So I think he should try a pro-biotic but read about so many different ones dont know which one to give him and how much to start with? The main aim would be to try and stop the D. Any advice gratefully received.

I used Healthy Trinity by Natren. Not cheap, but it’s worth the money in my opinion – I believe my c diff did not comeback because I took it everyday.

It must be kept refrigerated at all times. I purchased it from Whole Foods.

A really good one is VSL#3. You can get it OTC or you can ask your doctor for a prescription (so insurance can help with that). It's a LIVE probiotic (meaning the bacteria is alive) so it's better than dead cultures. Live cultures have to be refrigerated.

I too used VSL#3, the OTC product. A script for VSL#3 from a GI is double the strength, I'd recommend the latter as it's not only double the strength but as scifigal pointed out, have your insurance help with the cost.

Here's some reviews on different probiotics by brand-

Hope this helps and I hope your son gets and feels better, very soon!

The best probiotic is home made yogurt, not store bought, home made fermented for 24 hours.  One cup of home made yogurt has the the equivalent bacteria to taking 100 pills of probiotics.

Diagnosed 4 years ago. been  a helluva ride since.  If there is a side issue to this dd I can find it.  I suffer with Pyoderma Gangrosum and horriffic mouth ulcers that get to the point I can't open my jaws.  Last one was nice enough to create a fistula and  add to my list of fun things to deal with.
Been on all kinds a things, currently on Imuran 150 mgs and it at least give me some confidence in leaving my home.
Allergic to Remicade. Promethius test shows my body fights it.  Also suspected to have PBC or PSC  autoimmune liver disease.
