OK so I can ask this here and only here.  Still trying to find out if a real flare or c diff or something else.  Prednisone seemed to be kicking in but i am struggling 5 days later and 30mg.  Still thinking aobut the many recommendations that c diff is possible.
GROSS WARNING devil So the thing is I have a dark olive green to my very soft potty breaks.  And they smell worse and there is slime to it (not the usual milky garbage I call DNA strands but clear to greenish).  Is color an issue with c diff--you know like a sinus infection runs green usually?  I had some purple store brand gatorade yesterday, but nothing blue, green or purple otherwise.  The pain is killing me today too...almost knock me to the floor stabs.

Grrr....I am starting to cave on the I need bigger meds.....unless c diff is the answer

Have you had your stools tested? That should be done to rule out C. diff.

That said, when I had C. diff my stool smelled worse than when my Crohn's flared. CD poo always had an ascrid smell; C. diff poo smelled nothing like normal poo - hard to describe because nothing comes to mind other than rotting flesh. With C. diff poo it was always like blended poo consistency, unlike CD diarrhea that would have some particles and some more clear liquid.

Nothing like describing ones BMs on the 'net......LOL!

I might be wrong on this, but I think when your poo is green, it is because it is undigested and going through your system very quickly....so that doesn't really answer your c.diff question. I do remember a foul odor. Is your doc against ordering a stool culture? It sure makes sense to find out.

My son's stool can vary in color usually loose or looser than usual but I can tell from the smell if he has C-Diff or not. The smell is just horrible.

Hope you feel better soon.

C. diff. smells a lot worse. A stool sample test can tell the difference.

Thanks guys...just trying to get more info.  Doc seems to have written off the c diff possibility without the test (based on what they saw on CT and scope).  I am just looking for possibilities since the prednisone helped in November and is nto doing as much now...but other things are also in play too.  I do have a really strange smell from my normal.  I dont think the color is from undigested food/liquid since I have bee eating pretty much only white.
Doc just has said things that are confusing and pushing down the road to more meds and I am just slowing down the ride to try more prednisone for longer than 5 weeks or find something else if it is not an inflammation.  Just dont know why I would go to bigger meds if it is not inflammation (docs words)
I tend not to run the expected fever - really high for me is 99degrees so I sometimes watch things get missed because they think I ahve no fever so no infection.  I also have had so little care for so long (miss those days now) that I fight the impression that I am treatment averse versus my actual wish to just wait until it is absolutely the last chance.
Well..on the other hand I am bending more toward stepping up care as I am still in pain and I am watching my quality of life go down (not to mention I think my husband is going stir crazy in his first real long term run with a flare up).  I just told him to go to a bowling tournament in April without me.....I cried not because I dont want him to go, but sick of missing out on things and being lonely except for going to work.  What a crock---stay healthy enough to go to a job I dont like and miss out on the fun things in life.  So, I am determined to find my best care so I can be better long before our cruise booked for next january.
Sorry for the rambling...you're probably jsut as sick of me as my husband now.

HMMM! You definitely can have Crohn's AND c.diff. Actually, I think the Crohn's inflammation increases your risk for infection, so c.diff is more common with us Crohnnies. So I don't understand why the CT scan and scope showing disease activity would rule out c.diff???? My suggestion is that you ask you GI doc to order a stool culture even if he doesn't agree, just so you can rule out infection...I didn't have a fever with c.diff, but I felt really terrible. Actually I told my doc I felt like I was dying and he put me in the hospital on IV prednisone....he didn't think I had c.diff either, but as part of hospital routine they took a stool culture and found the c.diff. My doc was very apologetic....I probably could have avoided feeling near death and the hospitalization if we did the stool cultures sooner. I'm not saying that you have c.diff....I'm just saying ruling it out makes sense to me!
