Thank you for responding!! I have asked her doctors to please refer me to a dietician and have not gotten any one of them to do so. They just told me to go on line and search, that there was a lot of information out there. Yeah there is but what's good for the Crohn's is bad for the renal. So I found this SCD diet and thought if I could get her Crohn's under control then maybe the Renal would fall into place (or hold it's own with no dialysis) as her body would be getting the nutrients it needs to function.
It is also very hard to get the correct information from her because of the dementia. I am almost at my wits end. I am so lost as how to deal with all of this. She absolutely hates this diet, we are just in the first week with homemade chicken broth with a tablespoon of pureed carrots and 100% real grape jello. She will be starting the yogurt on Sunday.
Mom is 66, she was diagnosed over 10 yrs ago and had most of her colon removed 7+yrs she also has been diagnosed with Dementia (5+yrs) along with the Renal (4+yrs) disease. Her last colonoscopy was almost a month ago and showed ulcers were they had done surgery (she only has about 1ft of colon left).
I do believe some of the meds she is on are also contributing to the issue but I can't make her believe this.
venlafaxine HL 75mg-1 a day, aspirin 81mg - 1 a day, tandem (vit supp) - 1 a day, sodium bicarb 650mg - 2 tabs twice a day, dicyclomine 20mg - 1 a day, donepezil HCL 5 mg - 1 per day, calcitriol .25mg - 1 per day, bisoprolol HCTZ 2.5-6.25mg - 1 per day, folic acid 1mg - 1 per day. RAW probiotics - 1 per day. She was also taking lialda 2 per day, florastor 4 per day and dexliant 60mg - 1 per day but they were just samples from her gastrologist and i have a call in to him for she has finished those (they weren't helping anyway). She was also taking the mesalamine enema but that was not working (only the max 15 mins). I think as long as she takes the donepezil she will not get control of the Crohn's but she doesn't think that. Also, I have looked up some of her meds and a couple of them have conflicts.
Sometimes I think the docs are not telling me something because they don't seem to be much help, just take a pill and it will all be good. So that's what mom thinks. Don't worry about the diet, there's a pill for it, BUT THE PILLS AREN"T WORKING. Just so frustrated with it all.
I know everyone has their own way of controlling the flairs but it sure does help to get information that I don't seem to be able to get anywhere else. So sorry to vent!!!! Thanks!!
