Imuran is now very effective w my Crohn's. But this stomach flare up made me skip both Pentasa and Imuran; they irritate my stomach more. I'm afraid by not taking Imuran regularly I might flare up and its effects wears off. What do you think would not taking the med for a couple of days affect its effectiveness?
Any replies are highly appreciated.

Hi have you tried eating before you take your meds. I would not take Imuran or Pentasa on an empty stomach.

I think Pentasa is designed to not break down in the stomach acid but further down in the small intestine after it's gone through the basic (alkaline) atmosphere. But with you being treated with meds for the stomach, which affects the acidity level, it's plausible that Pentasa isn't breaking down properly.

I guess you really need to call your GI's office and get a message to him to advise you about the medications until you get to see him. I'm thinking from my own experience that he/she will tell you to stay on it. Hope you get better soon. -Joy

Teddybearweiser - thank you very much. I try to eat but eating is a real torture.
JaSanne- thank you very much. I'll try hard to take my meds though it is very painful.
