In all the years I've been having scopes, both upper and lower, the CRNAs (those administering the sedation) have been more than willing to sedate me as lightlly or as deeply as I indicated that I preferred. Just be sure to tell the staff performing the procedure that you tend to have anxiety problems and you strongly prefer to be as sedated as possible so that you will NOT be aware of what is transpiring. For good measure add in your strong gag measure. They will accomodate you.
