Had an oral surgery last week where an oral cyst was removed and two upper wisdom teeth were extracted. The surgery was under general anesthesia and it went on well. Starting day 2, I started feeling something dangling or hanging from my gums. I looked at the mirror and saw some dangling suture. Went to the dentist who cut off some stitches and said they were dissolvable. I insisted there was something else dangling that bothered me while speaking or eating. He said you have very weak gums. During the surgery, he discussed this issue w the anetheist who confirmed that Crohn's is the cause of this weakness. Is it true? Does Crohn's weaken gums? Are there any measures one can take to prevent his/her gums?

I've always heard Prednisone can cause gum damage.

Meshice, thank you very much. Really! I'm just wondering why did this problem rise after the oral surgery. I feel I'm biting this dangling thing.
Take care:)

I would think that Crohn's could have something to do with it since it can affect your mouth. In my previous flares I used to get really red, irritated gums to the point where food would stick to them and it would be really hard to get off. Or if I bit into an apple it would leave some blood in the bite marks. It was pretty gross. The dentist gave me some kind of mouth wash I could use that would prevent any infections, I can't remember the name of it right now. But if you used it for very long it could turn your teeth brown.
My crohn's now seems to have mutated since now I'm flaring but my gums are fine. This is such a strange disease.
