My hospital's instructions include a Go-Lytely prep but I am thinking about substituting Miralax. My question is, does the Miralax prep do the trick? I have never been able to completely finish the Go-Lytely. Also, has anyone done the clear liquids for more than one day before the procedure, and does it help to go with clear liquids for more than one day? Thanks!

I use the miralax prep regardless of what the dr's directions say. For me, it's the easiest on my body and the least offesive to drink. It cleans me out just the same but without the terrible cramping some of the others give me.
For a couple of days prior I go for a softer diet which helps but i'm sure if you can do a clear liquid one it would make it easier on you.
good luck

I do the miralax prep too. I've done it for my last two scopes even though the doc prescribed something else. I agree with lamb61, it's the easiest to get down and I always put it with orange Gatorade. I googled miralax prep and followed the instructions. There's about 7 different versions, but they all use dulcolax and miralax, the only difference is the time they say you should start the prep. I didn't bother to tell my doc because I figured there was no need to tick him off. He saw what he needed to see and I didn't have to gag don the golytely.

Just eat light a day before your clear liquids day. You'll be fine. Good luck!

I'm also deciding which prep to use. The doctor's office sent an instruction sheet with 3 choices: moviprep (no thanks), suprep, and miralax. I've never done a miralax prep before, and it looks much better I have a tough time keeping the usual stuff down, but the instructions I got say to also drink a 10oz bottle of magnesium citrate the morning of the procedure. How bad is that going to be?

Pretty bad. I say don't do it. I mean, you will survive and you can get 10 oz of anything down, but if you eat light 1-2 days before your clear liquid day and do the full miralax prep, the you should be fine. The mag citrate is going to have you crapping your brains out before the procedure and unless you've been eating like an elephant, it's probably not necessary. Up to you, but if your poo sediment is clear or mostly clear after the miralax, I would skip the mag citrate. Have you done a scope before? Do you know what your poo is supposed to look like to be considered clear?

Not my first scope (25 yrs with CD), but never had the miralax prep. I'm gagging right now just thinking of the salty preps so miralax sounds appealing. Maybe I'll just drink lots of water in the morning to flush things out. I typically can't get much of the prep down in the morning anyway and the 45 minute drive is always a challenge.

Thanks for the prep advise Lamb and Stef, think I will go for the miralax. Good luck with your scope Dave. I'm hoping they don't find anything shocking down there with mine and the same best wishes for you.

Oh geez, you have a 45 minute drive? Then I would not do the mag citrate. If you are concerned, then drink the full 64oz prep, but I bet you won't need it.

big betty, how did the miralax prep go?  I used the ducolax and pico salax prep and I was on fluids for a day and a half.  I feel the half day the next morning was a helpful reasurance that I was clean because I was still getting light and dark fluid stools the night before.  After I drank the prep the next morning, it was obvious I was cleaned out good and stayed that way.  I was not allowed fluids 3 hours prior to my colonoscopy, so I had to take the 2nd prep at 6 am.   Hope everything went well for you.

Well Dorri, I got a pretty good grade from my GI on the prep, he said it was good this time. I liked the Miralax as it was half the amount of prep to drink, plus I kept thinking about that lemon pie you described. I was nervous about it doing the job so in the morning I did the fleets enema, which was an odd thing, but got the old colon squeezed dry. I also took one Dulcolax the morning of my scope. The GI said my TI was moderately inflamed, with ulcers, so not good. He said there would be a good chance of needing surgery in the future if things don't get resolved. The good news was that my colon was perfectly normal from the biopsies taken, even though the doc said it looked puffy. I wonder if the puffiness he saw was irritation from the prep including Dulcolax and the Fleets? Guess I don't like to get a bad grade on anything so went a bit overboard.

How were your results? Good I hope : )

It was the best prep I ever tried. To me it tasted so mild. The real test was drinking a cup of the mixed powder with water at 6am the next morning, it was so pleasant, just like a sprite or something similar, I didn't gag or feel nausea. The other nice thing about it, you get to drink your choice of clear fluids. I was pretty much cleaned out after the first day, but because I was alternating between light and dark fluid stools and then light again, I felt better drinking the prep the next morning just to make sure I was cleaned out. It was clear right after I drank the 2nd prep so the first day may have been enough.

I'm halfway through with the Miralax and have to say it's the most tolerable prep I've ever done. Usually I have a hard time getting and keeping it down because the salty taste is so bad. I drank 32oz of Gatorade/Miralax and I'm not a huge fan of Gatorade but at least it's just sweet instead of salty. Some bloating but no nausea. I'm following a split dose regimen I found referenced online. 32oz tonight and 32oz in the morning. I started with a low residue diet and light meals for a couple extra days. I can't speak to the results yet but right now glad I chose the Miralax. Wondering why my doctor never suggested it.

Yeah, why do the drs want us to drink a whole gallon of that nasty, nasty stuff? Is that how they get their kicks? lol
Good luck with your scope Dave123, hope everything is pink and healthy down there.

Same goes here, good luck with your scope Dave. I wasn't able to find the Miralax in my area so can't speak for it, but if they also can't find it, try the picosalax if they have, sounds like it is equally as mild as Miralax. If anyone has tried both at one time or another, maybe they can give us a comparison report...LoL.
