I woke up at 3:30a this morning to find a lump in my pelvic area. It's gotten more painful throughout the day. It didn't seem like an abscess, but it also didn't seem to be an ingrown hair, either. I saw my PCP and she said that whole entire side is swollen. She can't tell if it's an abscess or if it's related to the moderately-abnormal mole that I had removed from there in August (took 3 surgeries) since it's on the same side. So here I am, waiting at the ER. Since my last abscess went septic within 36 hours of the lump forming, she didn't think it was wise to do a CT scan at an imaging center and have to wait a day or two for results.

And my husband left yesterday morning for a week-long business trip. Blah.

Thanks guys. CT scan showed no abscess. They think it's a swollen lymph node but no idea what's causing it. I feel so frustrated.

I'm glad it's not an abscess though! Are the docs giving you any suggestions as to what to do about it, or do they think it will go down on its own? I think your poor body has been through so much that your immune system is a bit haywire. (How's that for a highly sophisticated explanation:-) I hope you sort it out and feel better soon!

lol, thanks @gumby. No the ER doctor was kind of rude about how I went in "just for that." She said she has no idea what was causing it, that it was probably nothing, and she gets them when she exercises even so it's not a big deal.

I give up.

I'm well aware as to what a swollen lymph node feels like, but I can't recall any being painful, but I can't recall a lot of things. It seems like your PCP would have known if it were a that, and I've never heard of it swelling the entire area as your PCP described. But if it was that, it could be there from where you had the triple surgery to remove the mole; they can stay around for awhile.

I hate it when I get an ER doctor that treats me that way even though my doctor told me to go. All I can say is that they don't know what it's like to have sepsis. Some of them went into the wrong profession.
