I have been in complete remission for almost 8 years without one symptom from my crohns, and the only drug I take is pentassa 1000mg 3 times a day, but I also follow the SCD diet.
Now is it the diet that keeps me in remission or the pentassa or the combination of both,,,,I don't really know, but since pentassa has neverr given me any side effects, and my insurance pays most of the bill every month, I will continue to take it.
Also my crohns was not as severe as others. I had two large rectal fistulas and blood and mucus in my bms when I was diagnosed, but no abdominal pain or constant D.
I refused the hard core drugs like humira and remicade and opted for the SCD diet approach along with pentassa. After 6 months of following the SCD diet with fanatical dedication, both fistulas had healed up completely, and all the symptoms like the blood and mucus were completely gone.
