I have had this happen a few times before, but this week it has been almost every day. I get a sharp stabbing pain in my ribs partway into my daily walk, and then it starts radiating to my collarbone. I was thinking gas pain/pressure? It hurts if I take a deep breath but when I'm exhaling and get to the end of the exhale. The pain will get up to a 7 at times. Just gas pain, or should I be a bit more worried?

maybe gallbladder. but maybe gas. or costochondritis. Pick one! Sorry you are dealing with this.

lol, I feel like I'm playing a dice game with my health - whichever number I roll is the condition causing the problem this time! It fits a lot for gall stones, but I had my gallbladder removed when I got pancreatitis. Costochondritis or gas are good ideas. If it keeps up for a few more days at this intensity, I'll call my dr. Thank you!

Hey, at least you know it's not your gallbladder!

I've have had the exact same problem for the last few years. Had my gall bladder removed with no help. The pain will last for four or five days then go away for a week or two then return. I cannot relate it to any activity I do or anything I eat. My GI says it is not Crohn's related. I have had a MRI, ultra sound, and endoscopy all showing nothing! Basically I was told to just live with it.
Hope you have better luck!

For me the upper right quadrant pain is related to slow bowel transit and means I need to empty my bowels. But mine does not worsen with breathing.

@dale B - glad I'm not the only one!

@kazbern - I think it must have been something like that. Trapped gas or a full bowel. It didn't happen today and I walked just as far as yesterday (a little over three miles).

Thanks guys!

I used to get some pretty bad pain where my gallbladder used to be. I explained to my doctor that it felt similar to when I had a gallbladder, and I know it's gone so I'm losing my marbles. lol I had an ultrasound that was normal. My doctor told me about it maybe being Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction (which I guess can happen after you have your gallbladder out). But in the end they believed I was having pain due to a lot of scar tissue in there.

It's pretty much gone away now. I had what I think was Costochondritis last year. That was more of an "outside" of my rib cage pain. If that makes sense. That really hurt to move or take a deep breathe. I lived with my heating pad for a few days. Of course trapped gas is always a good possibility. Oh the fun things we get!
