Entocort is DEFINITELY not a long-term solution. Honestly, you really want to stay on it for weeks, definitely not for months at all. It's not as destructive on the body as prednisone is, but it's still pretty rough. The biggest thing is that you can become steroid-dependent, where you can't ever get off it at all. I was on prednisone for 10 months at a medium/high dose (40 mg), and it caused permanent eye damage, daily migraines, and a tremendous host of other problems. Entocort can do the same.
What has your GI said about meds? Some GIs take a bottom-up approach, where you are started off with low-level meds (like Imuran), and if they don't work, then go up to stronger meds (biologics like Remicade). The problem with this is that Imuran takes 3 months to even start working, and even then it's not all that effective with most people. (And don't start on mesalamines, with UC they work well, but with CD you might as well take a placebo, studies show.)
More and more GIs are starting patients out with biologics. They're the most effective on the market and they kick in pretty quickly. Keep in mind that even though your Crohn's is mild now, it won't necessarily stay that way. You can quickly go from mild to moderate or even severe. I was mild for the first two years or so, and then overnight (literally) I was getting abscesses, fistulae, pancreatitis, and even went septic on two different occasions.
Anyway, the sooner your GI gets you on meds (I would highly recommend just starting out with biologics) then the sooner you can taper off entocort. When you are on a steroid, your body stops making the hormones it needs because the pill supplies them. If you stop cold-turkey, you literally could kill yourself. You HAVE to taper slowly so your body can realized it doesn't have as many hormones and can start producing them again. If you stay on steroids too long, your body can lose the ability to produce them at all and you have to stay on steroids the rest of your life. Trust me, even biologics and other CD meds (which are life-long) are better than steroids for the rest of your life.

"For this thing I besought the Lord thrice that it depart from me. He said, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities; I take pleasure in infirmities, reproaches, necessities, persecutions, distresses, for when I am weak, then am I strong" 2 Cor
