Thank you both for your responses. I have not been diagnosed with Crohn's or any other IBS at this point. I had a colonoscopy done back in late 2012 and all looked good with the exception of an anal fissure (That is what I went to get the colonoscopy for and I think the anal fissure is where all of this started from as I neglected it for a couple of years..). I went back to see the same GI in 2014 complaining about
the same occasional bright red blood in stool and he gave me a cream to use. I used the cream a few times and stopped using it as it irritated my anus. Around 8/1/15, I had excruciating pain and called the GI again. He was not available so I spoke to his assistant who scheduled a Sigmoidoscopy for 8/24/15. The pain was so severe the following few days that I went to see my PCP (who was not available). His assistant sent me to see a General Surgeon (the person I mentioned in my previous post), who sent me in for emergency surgery on 9/4/15. The rest is history as outlined below.. Therefore, the Sigmoidoscopy was never done as I went in to surgery for the Abscess before that. I was really frustrated with the GI because he's never available and I waited for 3 weeks in pain before I could go in to see him (his assistant that is) and another two weeks for the Sigmoidoscopy! So as far as Crohn's testing goes, I had that one colonoscopy in late 2012 which came back ok and I had a biopsy during my 4th abscess/fistula surgery which was taken from the anal canal and biopsied for Crohn's. That came back negative. So I still need to get a lot more tests done to see if I have Crohn's or not as I heard that a diagnosis is not easy and takes time.
As far as the fistula, my current surgeon recommends an advancement flap. However, I'm a bit concerned with that as it is pretty major surgery right off the bat. I suggested why not try a plug or fibrin glue first? He said those don't work. So I don't know if he just does not have any experience with those or what. So that is why I'm looking to find someone in either Boston or Lahey Clinic. Basically, I need a lot of help as this has been killing my quality of life (as has for everyone else here
. I just need to find a good network of doctors that will find out what I have and get it treated correctly. I just don't have any confidence in my last two Surgeons to tackle this issue for the long term. Again, if anyone can recommend someone, please help. I need to get this going as soon as possible. Thanks again.
