just wonderin' who is still around from the "good old days" back before all the new biologics when remicade was still given in glass jars with special tubing that would not dissolve etc.. the days of pretty much dark ages when prednisone and azulfidine were the primary drugs for us. or even further back when some hospitals had CT scanners come in semi trucks to do scans. and when scans took 20 minutes instead of like 5 now. when barium enemas and upper gi's were the "standard" diagnostic tool. ah, the good old days.. makes me kinda misty cry

Was not on the forum, but I do remember azulfidine being my only option in the first two years. I remember my early days on the forum!

In 2003 I was still fighting for a proper diagnosis. Took another 3 years before I would finally get it. At that point I did have a barium enema as my first more "invasive" test. Never did show anything either. When I finally did get a diagnosis seemed like they loved handing out Asacol, which didn't exactly do much for me!

Me! I was on azulphadine for years then had my dx taken away because of a clean colonoscopy. I found this place, HW, when crohns came roaring back in early 2000s. OMG, I almost forgot how bad those barium enemas were....makes me not hate preps now. As far as medicine has come it seems like we've only taken baby steps.

In 2003 I don't think Remicade was even a glint in the NHS's eye. I was still at my first hospital and being fobbed off with mesalazine, which I didn't take because I had a severe intolerance to it. Never had a barium enema - that was one horror I managed to escape - but I had a couple of small bowel barium follow throughs which were pretty horrible.

I miss having mild disease (or at least mild symptoms) and blissful ignorance.

I had IBD in 2003
But was in elementary school and was "faking stomach aches so I didn't have to go to school"
Ha, I also never mentioned blood cuz I didn't know maroon stools weren't normal
Oh well
I only got diagnosed with IBD a year ago and pretty much started biologics from the beginning

I remember joining and being taken under the wing of CrohnieII, Beta Girl, David, Randy, Sniper and so many whose names escape me at the moment. If not for the kind folks here when I joined, I would never had the gumption to fire my ineffective GI and hire a good one. That's when I got diagnosed after having CD related issues for 30 years!

I became a member back in 2002 but couldn't get into my old acct and had to recreate it more recently. This forum saved me! Totally a godsend!

p.s. just took a trip down memory lane, went to page 3022 of the members list by date joined! if ya have time , take alook. you can see the wide variety of the site. some only made 1 post maybe to ask 1 question, then there are some that did a few hundred and now maybe only lurk or come by now and then, then there are the ones with many thousands of posts. some into the tens of thousands. I remember when betagirl was a moderator she was up to like 15k then for some reason it bumped her back down to zero.

Randy.....I miss the fun of those days early on here. I remember having to be careful reading posts at work for fear of laughing out loud.
I suspect we may have lost some folks which makes me sad. But I also think some have gained the strength to move on. Keah helped when I first joined. Snohare, you, vv, and sniper made me laugh....and sniper gave some great garden advice. Aunt Kay was here and I always thought of my favorite aunt when I saw her screen name. Lately I have been signing my posts with Take Care remembering another that helped me much through the years.
Things seemed less tense and less technical back then....I got an answer with my first post, but I also found escape here.

Take Care

they must have made pretty rapid progress with all those things, because when i was diagnosed in 2004 remicade was the first treatment i was put on, and it was just a normal IV bag. never had a barium enema, either, though i do recall needing to chug barium for some scan or another. might be because of where they were looking, idk.

Hi Randy, still here!  LOL, think I was one of the first members to this Forum when it first started.   Still don't see very many familiar names from back then, not that I can remember who, but to see them post would jar my memory.    My first med was prednisone, followed by Asacol which really did nothing to help me, so back on the prednisone I went.  It's been an on and off affair, and presently it's back to On with the Prednisone but weaning back down.   I was prescribed many medications since, with little to no help.  No biologics were in the picture at that time, till Imuran and then Remicade came about.

Crohn's is a very stubborn disease, but hey, we crohnie's are very stubborn people, sometimes it pays to be stubborn, well, okay, I will speak for myself, I am a very stubborn person with a flare up my butt!    Don't think you or anyone else wants to stand in the line of fire.    Randy, the one thing I remember about you, is that you seemed like a very strong person and yep, we always got a laugh or two from you, just when we needed it most and some strength as well.  Keep up the good work.

Hi Randy,

You are one of the few that I would ever respond too, as I occasionally still lurk. The forum has changed a lot. My screen name was Nanners and I was diagnosed in 1975, so I am familiar to the limited medications first used, and the horrid testing we had to suffer thru. Barium enemas have been suggested to me over the past few years, and I still refuse that test, as well as the upper GI. Why do tests like that when you can do a MRE or something less intrusive. I am in contact still with about 11-12 folks that were long time members or moderators here, including Sniper. But our contact is done thru FB now. I always think of you, Crohnie2, Ides and many others that were so helpful to me. I did learn a lot thru this forum. As we never had any support back in the day. I pray you are doing as well as possible. I am about to complete my 41st year of living with Crohns. Still a big proponent of always taking your medications, even in good times. Save yourself some pain! Hugs Randy!

Hi Nanners, nice to see you back. Of course I remember you Ides, Familyguy, and many of the other names mentioned such as Sniper, Crohnie11, Betagirl, Sukay, Jen ,VV ....Our Forum back then, lightened us up, and eased the seriousness of what we were going through. I find it has changed a lot since then? Maybe because some of our older members are missing haha? Jdiane, think the meet up in Atlanta was in 2003, someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Wow, I am so glad that I lurk & read random posts, lol. I was from those days of Betagirl & ElJay, Sniper & VV too & of course Randy. The knowledge I gained by hanging out with this crowd was unbelievable. Oh Randy, I use to love to read Panayo's threads, what a writer. Hi Nanners, so good to see you pop on.

I hang out in the CP forum these days. So happy this thread was made brought back some very good memories.
