Nine years ago, when the first colonoscopy showed mild infectious ileocolitis, yet the symptoms were then very severe, my GI told me that if it's Crohn's it should progress in 10 years time. It seems he was right. My Crohn's symptoms get more pronounced now. As I posted last week, I had nocturnal diarrhea and fecal incontinence for two consecutive nights, I developed a fistula at the beginning of the year and I'm losing weight because of disease activity.
Since puberty, no matter what stress I have been under, I skipped a period may be once or twice. I've always read that Crohn's and steroids cause irregular menstrual cycles but I never experienced any. This month, I skipped my period which only happened once 11 years ago when I had to undergo a dermoid ovarian cyst surgery. When my disease was more active than now and I suffered from anemia, I got regular periods. I can't figure out what's wrong this time.
Definitely, I'm under stress because of my PhD but I'm used to studying stress. I can also attribute this missing of menstruation to steroids but I have been on Entocort for 5 years now and in these years, I used to take colifoam so I don't think it's the steroids either. My hemoglobin level was 13 last October. I know it's just one cycle but I want to understand the cause.
