Thanks folks :p
Good gosh, I thought I was never going to find the recipe, but my google-fu triumphed in the end.

I mostly followed the recipe but with a few changes. I used a Croloaf from Marks & Spencer instead of individual croissants. More importantly, I binned off the maple syrup and just added loads of golden castor sugar instead. Didn't measure it but about
1 American cup's worth? Don't worry about
making it too sweet: it's almost impossible to. Yeah, there is jam but you hardly taste that: it's just a pleasant fruity footnote. Also, I didn't add the alcohol but feel free to add that if you want. And finally, we had no vanilla pods so I just used 2 teaspoons of vanilla bean paste, which was just as good. Poured the custard mix over it, let it soaked in for a while, whacked it in a 180C oven for 40 minutes, took it out and let it sit for about
another hour while we digested our Christmas dinner. It was still hot.
My mum did all the savoury stuff, so I will have to ask her for the recipes for those. Incidentally I had leftovers for dinner yesterday and everything was still just as nice.
