I read somewhere that there is a belief that overuse of antibiotics could play a part in Crohns.

Got me to thinking, growing up and leading up to my Crohns diagnosis, I almost never took antibiotics EXCEPT that poultry/meat for DECADES have been raised w/ antibiotics.

I wonder if maybe some people who are more prone to Crohns from antibiotics developed it from poultry/meat.

I don't know about from meat and poultry, but I got c. diff. for the first time about 6 months before I started having bloody D from Crohn's, so I had been on a ton of antibiotics. However, years before Crohn's was an issue, I had GERD so bad I developed strictures in my esophagus and had a rectal fissure that the PCP said was from being a college student eating too much pizza (even though I was never constipated). I also got parasites in the Dominican Republic about two years before all of this. So who knows - I feel like it's a bit of the chicken and the egg.

My son NEVER took antibiotics before being diagnosed with Crohn's at age 17. However, he did get C- diff not from antibiotics but FROM Crohn's. So who knows???

From what I've read on the Healing Well forum over the years the main cause is food poisoning followed by ibuprofen use.
