Thanks gumby. I heard about postherpetic neuralgia from my last bout with shingles. It came up as one of the possible complications of shingles, so naturally I fretted it would happen to me. But it didn't: the pain completely went away. As far as I can tell, PHN is simply a continuation of the pain that you had during an active shingles attack: there's no break between the rash disappearing and the PHN appearing. So... I don't think it's that what I have, but I'm not 100% sure either.
Dx Crohn's in June 2000. (Yay skull)
Tried: 5-ASAs, azathioprine, 6MP, Remicade, methotrexate, Humira, diets.
1st surgery 20/2/13 - subtotal colectomy with end ileostomy.
2nd surgery 10/7/15 - ileorectal anastomosis. Stoma reversed and ileum connected to the rectum.
Current status: Chronic flare. Do I have any other kind?
Current meds: 50mg 6MP; Entyvio (started 3/11/16)

I also had shingles a while back and was warned about possible nerve damage. Luckily, seems to have abated for me. Best wishes!

I've never had shingles but I do have Herpes Simplex around my face and eye. When I get tired or ill, my face often tingles and/or hurts where the shingles outbreak was, and then it subsides again. It isn't continual pain. It can be gone for months and then come back without an actual outbreak. I don't know if it is the same thing with Shingles. Just a thought.
I hope you are doing better today

The ex-shingles pain (if it was that) was quite bad last night when I went to bed, but has practically gone now. How odd. I never knew that shingles pain could come back without an actual outbreak. Another thing to look forward to from now on eyes

@gumby - Yeah, I get issues in previous cold sore spots. Sometimes I think a cold sore is going to appear, but it doesn't and the tingling/soreness goes away. Actually, cold sores are the one thing I haven't had a problem with this year: I suppose there's only so many places my immune system can attack at once.

@RiddleMeThis - Thanks!
