Hi my son turned 13 last weekend and has been in pain up to 39 times a day with what looks like contractions ranging from 1 minute to 3 hours we have been pushing to try and find out what is wrong he has had an ultrasound a CT scan and an X-ray the X-ray showed a back of pooh but that was the only thing it showed so been on movicol for 3 weeks not a lot happening then he got really bad again so on the 4th visit to A and E they admitted him to hospital but they would only give him paracetamol I kept asking about chron disease but they said as there was no blood on stools or urine then it would not be chrons anyway yesterday they decided they needed to a special blood and still test that we have to wait two weeks for results of and a colonoscopy the pediatrician says as there is only the horrific cramping it's unlikely he has had temperatures at times too could it be possible not to show up on tests already done and be chrons they keep saying that he needs to learn to overcome the pain with his brain!!! Can't believe it thank you for reading

Wow, that is awful. They are WRONG that there has to be blood for it to be Crohn's. It sounds like there's a chance he could have a stricture, so I think you need to get an MRI as well. Next time take him to a different hospital. This could definitely be Crohn's.

Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities; I take pleasure in infirmities, reproaches, necessities, persecutions, distresses, for when I am weak, then am I strong" 2 Cor

I am guessing you are not in the states. You do not have to have blood in the stools to have crohns. Your son needs to have a colonoscopy with biopsy's taken to see if this is crohns or not. MRI will show if there is a blockage or narrowing but having a scope is the still considered the gold standard test to dx crohns.

I would be trying to find a better dr & hospital for care. He has something going on & he needs proper testing to determine what is causing all of this.

Take care.

Just seconding what straydog has advised. Your son absolutely needs a colonoscopy with biopsies done, to confirm whether he has Crohn's. Hope you get things sorted out soon.

He had a much better night last night and down to about 7 attacks in the 24 hour period usually 20 plus ... we have this before where he's been ok for 2-5 days but always comes back is this the sort of thing that happens? His only symptoms are horrific pain rightlower side abdomen and sometimes getting a fever so grateful to you all for the advice

I am glad he had a better night, however, I would push the drs into more testing. If I am understanding you correctly your son is severely constipated. Taking laxatives all of the time to have a bowel movement is not a good thing at all. Push those drs.

Take care.

yeah you definitely need to keep pushing the doctors or find new ones if you can travel further because those symptoms are concerning and definitely warrant evaluating for crohns

I started with severe constipation and an anal fissure. An ultrasound showed a thick small bowel near the end. My family doc put me on Prednisone, the first round was not strong enough but the second round was. (20mg maybe?)

I do suffer from strictures and fistula. Remicade is improving my life.

diet can help. I am no wheat and if you can really cut down on the refined sugar, it will help - it gives me a lot of cramps and gas - bloating is pain... gas is pain.

Fructose/Glucose hurts me as well.... those chemicals.....

If I was ever completely blocked, i would have "contractions," hot and cold sweats, severe pain, nausea, and throwing up until nothing was left. This did take hours.

I hope this is not crohns and he can get past this!
